Calculated Shipping Location Cost Discrepancy

Whenever I use calculated Shipping by Location, there is always a discrepancy in the numbers.

Buyer shipping costs - $15.34
Postage costs - $17.30

Your ebay discount - ($2.42)

Seller Pays Total - $14.88

Why isnt the buyer charged the $17.30 ?

Those prices are all for shipping a 3-pound package via Priority Mail to Zone 8.

$17.30 is the retail price, $15.34 is the regular online price (Commercial Base), and $14.88 is the Commercial Plus rate which you pay because you're a TRS.

Apparently your Site Preferences are set up to charge the buyer the online rate rather than the retail rate (which is the default).  You need to go to My eBay > Account tab > Site preferences and adjust the shipping section option that's called something like "Share carrier discounts."

The difference between 15.34 and 14.88 is 0.46.

3% of 15.34 is 0.46.  Interesting that my ebay fees are 3%.

But, the shipping discount is MY discount. Not the buyers.

Its my choice whether to pass the discount on to the buyer.

**Ok, thanks. I posted the above before your reply. Ill give it a try next time.

@beacon1040

There is a setting in Site Settings that says "share shipping discounts with buyers" or something to that effect.

It looks like you have it set to give the buyer the Comm Base Rate, which is the normal non-TRS rate.

If you uncheck the option in settings, it will charge your buyers Retail

Edit .... off to the slow typist corner for me LOL

but here's how to change the setting

To offer eBay-negotiated discount rates:

  1. Go to My eBay > Account > Site Preferences

  2. Next to Shipping preferences, click Show

  3. Next to Offer carrier-specific discounts to buyers, click Edit

  4. Select the radio button for Offering cheaper/online discounted shipping rates for your listing, then select the check mark next to one or more of the options:

    • USPS discounted

    • FedEx eBay discounted

    • UPS eBay rates

  5. Click Save Settings

That 3% difference is not an eBay fee or an eBay discount.  It's the difference between the USPS's published rates for Commercial Base vs Commercial Plus.  The "eBay discount" is nothing more than the difference between USPS's retail rate vs the USPS online rate that you pay for your eBay label.
