I used to sell with "Immediate Payment Required" up until about a year ago... then I figured I would remove that since people would just pay for a purchased item right away, which they do.
Until this week. I have gotten three orders (one on Tuesday, one Wednesday and today) and never heard hide nor hair from the buyers. I have sent invoices indicating I will get the item sent out as soon as payment is received. NOTHING! Even follow up messages the next day saying I will open a dispute with ebay if payment isn't received. Still nothing. Is it just me that's getting this?

Reports on the Board indicate that a lot of sellers are finding this to be a new problem.
But.
If they weren't having the problem, if every transaction was going smoothly, they would not be here to complain.
If you are concerned, go back to using Immediate Payment Required.
Personally, while I don't often get deadbeat buyers, I only send one polite notice on Day Three.
As a non-US seller, I cannot open a UID until Day Four.
If there is no response, I open the UID without further notice.
The deadbeat got an invoice from eBay if they did not pay immediately. Then a notice from me. That should be enough.

It's really odd... and it seems each of the buyers in question don't buy often (one account was opened the day of purchase). I took the immediate payment feature off, since every so often I would get someone who would want to buy something and not be able to pay for a few days... and everyone else pretty much pays immediately anyway.
The sad thing is that buyers have 2 days to pay, per ebay. All I would want is some sort of communication from the buyers, but they seem to be hacked accounts or just people who have nothing better to do...
The three orders total about $120, so my problem is that while these purchases are hung up for a week or so going through the non-payment dispute, that's three items that others can't buy and that means I have a week of losing out on that money.

which is probably a good reason to go back to immediate pay.........

Happens to me few times a month. Ebay should change there policy on this. Could a seller sell something and never ship it out....I bet if they did ebay would put a hold on account. When someone bids and wins a auction and then no payment/no response to messages. Classic ebay siding with the buyers over sellers.

I added the immediate pay to my listings... I was dwelling on it already. It was never a problem, but with this rash of non-pay "buyers", it's the smart thing to do. My wife has been getting these non-payers on her account as well...

Buyers do get strikes IF sellers file the UPI case.......and those buyers can be blocked by sellers........so they do incur a penalty........IF sellers choose to follow the procedure.........

What policy are you referring to?

If the item is not received by the latest Estimated Delivery Date, all the buyer needs to do is file an Item Not Received dispute. If the seller cannot prove delivery of the item to the buyer's City and ZIP, eBay will enforce a full refund.
For sellers dealing with deadbeat buyers, the buyer has a minimum of two days after purchase within which to pay, after which the seller can file an Unpaid Item dispute. If that happens, the buyer gets an additional 96 hours (four full days) within which to pay, after which the seller can close the case. At that point the buyer gets an Unpaid slap on his record and the seller gets his Final Value Fees refunded. The seller can also set his Buyer Requirements limit to block bids from bidders with 2 or more Unpaid slaps on their account.
So basically both buyer and seller have some recourse if the other party isn't living up to their end of the sale.

If a seller doesn’t ship, they have the money. Taking money without shipping is a criminal offense, although granted small potatoes.
If a buyer doesn’t pay, no money or item has been sent so it is at worst a civil issue or breaking of a contract.
People also like to compare nonpayment on eBay to the old days where merchants posted bad checks by the register. Again, since the buyer gets the merchandise and the seller has nothing, it is a crime.
Check kiting is a criminal offense, nonpayment is a civil inconvenience.

I used to when I did a lot more auctions especially on items that were won for the least amount of money . Weird . Now I mainly do only BIN .. listings. I did try out a few auctions last month and luckily all the winning bidders paid. I'd suggest you should return to immediate payment only or BIN listings . Seem to be less problems there . Tulips

Immediate Payment Required is only available on Fixed Price Listings, and most of the Unpaid Items we hear of on the Boards are on Auctions.
I understand the logistics of this, especially in a world market with 24 time zones.

Have set all of mine to immediate payment now, thanks for the tip!

It's been a REALLY weird week... maybe it's the Coronavirus panic... I had these non-pays... then someone who had their item delivered Monday but apparently it was stolen by a porch pirate and they wanted me to refund them (they opened a refund request via Ebay that got shot down pretty fast)... people who wanted to return jeans and never sent them back and now a return of new jeans that "don't fit".
Just a weird week. At least now my shipping comes out of my pending Managed Payments...
