Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

For the last couple months, I've got several messages from eBayers wanting items cheaper, claiming "They know the real prices" saying I'm "Crazy for asking that price", etc...  They are usually ones who have low feedback or just thinking they will get a deal.  Is there any way of reporting them or do I just deal with it?  I never respond to the messages they are just getting annoying.  I sell on eBay all the time and shouldn't have to deal with this.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I like the ones who tell you So&So had these for $xx, how dare you ask what you're asking. But when you tell them to buy it from So&So then, the response is, well they don't carry it/have it in stock anymore (or it's discontinued).

Uhuh.

Why do you think mine is the price it is then hmmm?

In response to Davy Crockett....

Most cheap buyers are worried about their own bottom lines and not those of the seller, unfortunately. Probably not one of them stops to think about the seller losing anything.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I assume you did research and based your price on those results. Just keep adding them to your block list. They are probably large sellers / Store front owners using other I.D.'s on eBay to get items as cheap as possible.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

Message back and tell them you're not selling your items cheaper, or at any price to them because you've blocked them.

Not the best of ideas on a platform where a buyer can get a new account in the blink of a eye to get even for being taunted 🙂

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

Only for a few months?  Lucky you!   I get these constantly, for many years now.   There is nowhere to report it & in fact, eBay encourages it by allowing them to Make An Offer, even if you don't have BO on the item.  That said, I never bother to block & honestly, I turn many of these into sales with no problem.  It depends on how far apart we are & if they give a reason they think I'm crazy for asking my price.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

Luckily for me, I have had this happen only a handful of times. I had a gal TELL me that she would pay less than half the price I had on a very well know handbag, I wrote back and said 'I bet you would, but you won't be buying it from me. ' And then I blocked her and raised the price of the handbag by 25%, it sold a week later.

I normally Never get snarky with buyers, I have tried to explain costs, ebay's portion, etc. and that usually Never gets me anywhere. Now, when I price my items, I build in room for about a 10-20% discount. I don't feel like I'm losing and some feel like they've gotten a deal. If you want to remind them of anything, you can always tell them that they are welcome to go to the same estate sales, thrift stores, farm sales that you are going to so that they can Possibly get a bargain. Of course many times over those products will be stinky, dusty, dirty and they will have to clean it up.

By the way, I always block rude or obnoxious buyers, I also make a note as to the area that they are from just in case they get a buddy to make the purchase for them.  This may sound like a lot, but  as I stated earlier, this has happened only a handful of times.

Best of Luck in the future.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

Depends on the offer and the item, but many times I just tell them I'm a retailer not a wholesaler.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I did get some satisfaction on a recent question from a prospective buyer who claimed that an item I was selling could be bought many places on the web for significantly less. I carefully researched many identical items on eBay, finding no others on Google, and determined that I had indeed made a mistake. I thanked the buyer  for pointing out my error and raised the price to be in line with the competition, which in every case was already higher than my item! Problem solved!

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I screwed up on a order today. Had a record album listed at $8.00 with free shipping. On the listings page was a box from e-bay saying make an offer. So I lowered it to $6.00 and it was excepted. Got it packed up and the media rate was $3.49. Placed it in a box I paid $2.00 for. These were bought in bulk and each box was worth $2.00. So I made about 50 cents for the album. If e-bay deducts any fees then I made a lot less than that.

So I just finished revising everything I have that can go media mail by listing the buy it now price and have entered the ship price that will cover the full cost. Also in the description box I typed a line that reads shipping cost $xxxx + box $2.00 + packing mat'l (or I listed bubble wrap/tape etc.) $0.10.

This way when anyone interested in buying the item reads the information (hopefully they do) they will know why the price is what it is, and hopefully I will also read it before I ship the item.

Wonder how many other times I suffered what a brain freeze.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I actually had someone ask me to lower the price because they were buying for resale.  While I had to give them props for being honest, who in their right mind would think you would lower the price so they can make more money.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

If you are using Best Offer, you can also set up your options to automatically refuse BOs below your chosen price and automatically accept BOs over a chosen price.

If your item is $100 (with Free -included in asking price- Shipping of $10) you might be willing to accept as little as $82 but would lose money at $71.00.

So you require a minimum BO of $75 or more for consideration  but would happily accept an Offer of $85.

Those two figures can be as little as a penny apart.

You would never see the lowball offers, and the customer gets a polite letter. I've never seen the letter, but it is friendly enough that customers will continue to make offers until one is accepted.

Re: Buyers messaging wanting items cheaper

I had a buyer who bought an item with best offer. After three days of not paying, they messaged me asking me to cancel the order. They found the item else where cheaper with free shipping. Sorry if this caused you any trouble. Merry Christmas.

I sent them a message. No problem Thank you very much for letting me know. I'll cancel the order for you.

No, I did not block the buyer either. They were honest.

My item is still priced the same with shipping. I do have best offer on the item also. There are not may of the same items up that I have. Three others on Ebay. Google shopping search showed 4 others on two other platforms. Unless they are cross listed. That just reduces the number of items available.

I was thankful that I didn't have to message them, and wait for a reply, which I was going to do later on that day.
