I sold some computer ram recently. I shipped on the 22nd and he messages me on the 24th with a return request.
He says "i dont need it anymore and my motherboard wont fit it" and his REASON FOR RETURN is "ordered by mistake"
I have "No returns accepted" on all my listings. So I declined the return as it is NOT my fault the ram won't fit in his computer. I have the ram dimensions listed as 288 pin. So he should have known if the ram would fit BEFORE buying. It is NOT my fault that the buyer missed this detail.
He messaged me after I declined it saying "i dont even have it yet, i want a refund, i cant use it"
So now my item is still in transit and I am afraid that he can either 1) say he never got the item and lie in a new claim or 2) He could damage the item on purpose and lie saying that it arrived damaged.
I do not want to accept a return as I will lose money on shipping. I am going to continue to deny his return requests but am fearful he can make up a lie about not getting the item or he can damage the item and lie that way. I know eBay is very buyer protective but when does the seller get protected. There is nothing in this story that is my fault. It's like buying something at a garage sale and then later trying to return it because it wasn't what you thought. I view it as he now owns the ram and he can resell it on eBay if he wants.

Dear Buyer:
Thank you for your emails concerning your recent order. We do not typically accept returns for the types of items we sell. It is our understanding based on your emails to us that you ordered this in error.
When the parcel arrives you to, please do not open the parcel, but write "refused/return to sender" on the parcel so that it will return to us. Once it is received by us, inspected and we verify our part was returned, we will refund you minus shipping.
Please email us within the next (3) business days to confirm you will be returning the RAM to us as outlined above.
Sincerely,
your Great Seller (who is still peeved)

Thank you, that does seem better. I guess I sound a little angry at the situation. Waste of time and money...

Q: Do I then wait to send the refund request through eBay AFTER I get the item back or do I open the case right now?
A: There is no such thing as a 'refund request' to send the buyer. And you do not have to open a case as the seller.
Q: Is it possible to block this buyer or any buyers that have below a certain # of reviews?
A: It is possible to block this buyer, but not to block those with a certain # of reveiws.

@chad503 - easy for me - not my order! lol
Really am sorry about this - but it will sell again. Computer parts are a tough category - lots of folks have no idea what they need. They really should go to Bestie Buy.
Good luck (meant sincerely). Tomorrow will be a better buyer day.

^^^^^^ THAT RIGHT THERE !!

Keep in mind that if you do a partial refund (-shipping cost), eBay will not credit any final value fee back to you. It's better to see which cost more.

@chad503 wrote:Why would a seller ever put "no returns" in their listing then if it can only come back to hurt you? When is it ever an ideal situation? Does "no returns" essentially just mean "I don't want the item back, no matter what"?
Yes, pretty much.
But, it doesn't mean you won't be refunding, just you don't want the item back.

@duncanvr wrote:Hard situation to be in he sounds like he is a scammer. Likely if you did accept the return he would send his old part back to you. If you don't accept it he can moan to ebay who may force a return. Or as other member started do a reverse on the charge with credit company. This is where the no returns fails. I often think sellers are better off with 30 day returns buyer pays return shipping. That way at least you don't lose money on return shipping.
If they were a scammer, they would have filed an INAD, knowing the seller would have to refund.

There is a certain amount of wasted time and energy baked in to Retail, online or in person. Prepare yourself for this.

Here in ebay world if you are a seller who says no returns, it forces the buyer to lie about the return saying it is not as described, then you have to return the item any way and you get a ding against you. If you get too many of these dings you will be in the very high not as described category and an additional 5% will be charged to you sales until you get that ratio down.
The best thing you can do is accept returns, hopefully the buyer would check ordered by mistake and we all go on selling and buying.
My whole thinking is make more than I lose. In the end did I make money this month. My answer is always yes. Maybe you loose those small battels but ultimately win the war.
Have a great weekend!

As I agree with the policy I do not agree that a buyer should be covered under any policy if he is shown to commit fraud or be untruthful. The policy is now void for any buyer committing fraud .

If you stand up to this fraudulent buyer and win and deny his return ebay will protect you if a charge back comes .sellers need to start standing up to fraudulent buyers

I truly believe that sellers need to stop accepting returns and stand up to buyers .if a sellers knows he is being frauded then it's time to stand up . Bending over and taking the return does absolutely nothing in stopping theses buyers. If ebay is hit with an army of sellers standing up they will have to listen. Jmo
