Buyer wants to return an item purchased in September

Today I receieved a message from a buyer. He purchased a night light from me last September. He says he would like to return it to me because it is crooked. He had planned to contact me sooner but he forgot until now. Do I have to even respond to this guy? Could he still leave negative feedback after eight months?

No need to respond. I think the feedback limit is 60-90 days, but I might be wrong, certainly 8 month is way too long to leave feedback. Buyer is probably (just my opinion) trying to see if you send him a discount.

As for eBay, he has 30 days from item delivery to file a claim. Credit cards, PayPal, offer 180days after transaction. Looks like you are in the clear against chargeback, consider yourself lucky.

Dig in your past sales to make note of the address shipped to. Increase your BBL by one, and keep an eye out for any new purchases to that address with a new ID/another ID.

You could politely respond if you so choose, or you could fade quietly into the night (with no light).

wow oh wow is all I can say

tell the buyer to straighten their glasses............... just kidding

if this is a small night light about the size of an egg or a tennis ball I would think that most have a certain amount of wiggle room when you plug them in

its not really polite to not respond to a buyer buy you could just say the the return policy has expired which is the truth

Feedback can only be left for 60 days - that time is long gone.

He couldn't get a refund even if you wanted to give him one.  The transaction is no longer accessible on Ebay, you would have no way to refund him.  Credit cards and Paypal only give up to 180 days for a refund - that time is long gone.

You can ignore him if you want, or if you are compelled to respond just tell him it's not possible now because the return period has long expired.

Block him if you wish:  https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock

@jthole

They can't get a refund on Ebay after 8 months.  They can't do a charge back to their Credit card after 8 months.  They can't give you a negative comment after 8 months.  I would pass that on them.  Your transaction with them is more than complete.  For all you know the item is crooked because they may have damaged it themselves.  And yes, I block them. I would anyway.

Happy Selling.

I am wondering if this is a new scam starting up. I received a very similiar message where they were too busy to contact and "forgot". Mine was sold in October and they contacted me in late April wanting a refund because the article never arrived they said. I received two emails from them but just ignored them after which I contacted ebay.

Would you not just refer them to the tracking? Or does tracking disappear after a certain length of time?

At 8 months you should be in the clear.

Buyer has run out of time and options for a refund.

Ignore and don't forget to block you don't want this buyer to buy another item/items from you involving you into another transaction.

Buyer is being ridiculous at 8 months later.

I had someone ask for a refund of 6 months and also 3 months. eBay allows buyers to ask for such but doesn't mean they will get it. I responded to them since I got a hold of funds on these. Crazy I know! Both were opened and closed in my favor. I believe a buyer can leave feedback 60 days from when arrived to the buyer.

By the way, both of these cases had no tracking and were still closed in my favor. I don't think I would ignore them...I responded to mine saying such and such...kind of making the buyer look silly.

I had this happened to me twice. Once a guy said his printer stopped working 10 months later and 6 months placemats suddenly didn't match. I would just ignore him but I advise placing them on your block list.

A buyer has up to 180 days to file a case with Paypal and most credit cards give about that same amount of time.
