Buyer wants to return an item for damage after 30 days

I have just had a buyer message me that they would like to return an item for damages. The item was delivered on the 06/02/2023. They claim it took them this long to discover the issue.

When I sent the item it was in perfect working order and was packaged very securely.  I can't see it feasible that I should accept a return when the buyer has had the item for this long. I believe if there is damage it has occurred during the buyer's use of the item. I had a no return's policy.

How should I respond? There must be some protection for sellers in this situation.

Note: Item is a guitar.

Re: Buyer wants to return an item for damage after 30 days

Assuming the date is February 6, 2023. There is a return policy of 30 days on estimated date of delivery...no matter what...no returns does not mean no returns here. Buyer needs to open a case for a refund. Would I email back and forth to buyer....depends on an open case and window of returns...30 days. If 30 days have passed it is up to you to decide what you want to do. Some sellers think feedback is important to them. It is to me. And the buyer can also do a credit card chargeback where they get a refund and keep item...long after 30 days. Need to check buyer feedback. I would wait to see if buyer opens a case against you before doing anything including emails back and forth. And if you do email do it in a professional and business like matter.

Do you mean Febuary 6, 2023? Or June 2022?  Either way, its been longer than 30 days, so the buyer can't use that route.  They shouldn't be able to open a return with Ebay.

The no return policy is trumped by Ebay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) that Ebay so generously offers on our items.  But, your buyer is outside the window for MBG.

Re: Buyer wants to return an item for damage after 30 days

It's been over 60 days, well beyond money back guarantee of 30 days.  I would send them a polite note stating this and then cease communication.  You can also block the ID on your BBL just in case.

It's to late for them to do anything through Ebay, but they still have Pay Pal and their credit card, where you won't be so lucky.

Have a great day.

Re: Buyer wants to return an item for damage after 30 days

The buyer "wants" to return an item after 30 days?

How should you respond?

Politely tell them no, that they are outside ebay's 30 day return policy.

I would tell the to contact ebay if they persist.
