Buyer wants a refund b/c INR, tracking shows "AWAITING DELIVERY SCAN"

Okay, so the title really says it all. The buyer wants a refund because they never received the item. The tracking shows it was "Out For Delivery" one day but was updated to "Awaiting Delivery Scan" the next. How does everyone think I should handle this?

You have done all you can at this point. Don't refund yet... dang.

What is the Estimated Delivery Date on the Order? Your buyer can open an Item Not Received claim one day past that date... so for now, hope that delivery is made by then. Fingers crossed...

What was the date of "awaiting delivery scan"?

I had one of those in New York a week or so ago (but the buyer was honest, so it's not a concern). It showed out for delivery on the 29th and then on the 30th it was awaiting delivery scan. Later on the 30th it showed delivered.

If the awaiting delivery scan is recent, give it some time. I would tell the buyer it appears to be delivered but the tracking hasn't updated (which is a real thing right now). Tell them if they don't have it they should contact neighbours and look around to see where it might be, and that you'll look into it for them. (All the while you are  just waiting for that delivery scan).

I'm not sure if eBay will consider the awaiting scan the same way as delivered. Perhaps someone who knows more about INRs can fill you in on that.

Did the buyer actually open a request/case? Or are they just sending messages asking for refunds? If it's the later, you've got time until they open the case (and do delay them while you give USPS a chance to update the delivery scan). If it's a case, check the time limit. I always make sure I give the refund the day before eBay can step in, so there's no time issue of me doing it at 5pm when the time limit was 2pm, if you get what I'm saying.

If your buyer opens an INR, you'll have to provide a delivered scan to be protected.

While you wait for a delivery or wait for your buyer to open a Case, open a package trace on the USPS website, or call and ask for a trace. Sometimes that will shake a package loose. It's painless, quick and efficient online.

Obviously, if they open a Case and you don't have a delivery scan (by the date required) you refund, but not until then .

I would call the buyer's local post office and have them look up the tracking on their system.  Hopefully it will show more, and if there was a delivery see if there is a GPS location of where the package ended up.

Me too. It wasn't going to Syracuse, NY by chance, was it? I shipped mine out on 4/26 and I just checked now and it's been awaiting delivery scan for 8 effing days.

I agree with the other poster, check with the post office in her vicinity and see what the status of the package is. If they cannot locate it, then you will be needing to eventually refund as it is already more than a week overdue. But see if you can stall a bit to buy more time. Let the buyer know you are tracing the package and reassure them they will receive a refund if you come up empty-handed, but thank them for their patience and understanding while you investigate. Once an official INR case is opened, your choices are limited.

I generally try to stay optimistic in here, but I can tell you right now you're SOL. You can try calling around and all that good stuff, but this has happened to me no less than 6 times and I've never had a postal worker answer the phone and be like, "Oh, our bad, let me just scan that in for you". I've always experienced a complete lack of interest with zero help from USPS, eBay will never equate that status to anything even close to "Delivered", and I lost every INR case in this situation.

You might get lucky - I know some people have when they've called quickly, but I've never even come close.

You actually published your phone number in a public forum? You might want to report your post and have it removed. ASAP before the wacky phone calls start at 3:00 am.

And please re-read the eBay MGB (money back guarantee ). You are needlessly stressing yourself.

Re: Buyer wants a refund b/c INR, tracking shows "AWAITING DELIVERY SCAN"

Oh boy! Yes, I have been working on something like this as well.

Sent a package to Greenbrae, California......Package shows attempted delivery.......then rescheduled for delivery (meaning that the buyer would have done this reschedule with the USPS)......then next day waiting for redelivery scan........then NOTHING.

Opened a search case with USPS and have called....USPS still looking for the item for confirmation of delivery.

The USPS itself can be very insufficient thee days!!!

All the time during as this was going on, the buyer said she went to her local USPS and they told her they did not know where the item was (which was a lie bc tracking clearly showed the item was in the system)

Long story short, this person left me a neg feedback and said she never received the item....while at PayPal, she filed a "Item not as Described" case.

If she says at ebay never received, but at PayPal item not described....huh??? Which is it???

Doesn't make any sense.

I'm still waiting for resolution.

Sorry.......just venting my frustration here.

Good luck to you and sincerely hope you have a positive outcome...........YOU and ME!

Re: Buyer wants a refund b/c INR, tracking shows "AWAITING DELIVERY SCAN"

Just a general reply to this post.

I received FOUR of my eBay purchases last week and this week that the tracking stated "waiting for acceptance" or whatever they call it.   They all got here in a reasonable amount of time, the tracking info just plain old SUCKED.

I sent a parcel Priority 2 day that took a MONTH to arrive.

I am really OLD school here, but I remember when US to Australia took three months and everyone was happy about that.

Note that eBay gives buyers some sort of monetary "coupon" when items arrive late.  Thus those that LIVE on the tracking page.

Years ago, nobody wanted to ship to Brazil.  Now nobody wants to ship to the US.  Go figure.
