Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Hello

I've just made a sale on Ebay and then the buyer has tried to lower the price stating that they do not feel the item is worth the amount they paid. I explained this wasn't an option and not how Ebay works. They then said they wouldn't pay the amount of their winning bid and therefore I said I had no option but to cancel the transaction. I cancelled the order and chose the most relevant option  - buyer wants to cancel the order - as they are refusing to complete at the agreed price.

My concern is now that they have 10 days to respond to this and all the time I'm losing out on offering the item as a second chance to the next highest bidder and it is losing value - it was a car and due to be paid cash on collection.

Any ideas what options I have to get rid of this buyer so that I can either offer second chance or relist rather than waiting for them to possibly not even respond?

Thanks

" it was a car and due to be paid cash on collection."

It was an automobile?

Those rules are different.

Vehicle listings are non-binding according to policy.

A winning bidder is not obligated to pay,

and the seller is not obligated to sell to a winning bidder.

There's nothing to wait for.

List it again.

You're still probably going to be charged a "successful listing fee" on the last listing, regardless of whether they paid or not.

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Best thing to do in that situation is just let the transaction sit and if the buyer doesn't pay in a certain amount of time they will get an unpaid item strike.

As of now, your buyer can claim he didn't ask to cancel the transaction and you may end up getting a defect.

Hope it all works out for you!

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's what my worry is. I was so amazed that they tried to lower the price that I rushed into cancelling the order and of the 3 options I was given, chose the one that was the most relevant. I think they won't agree just to be awkward.

Yes, this is what should have been done ... I'm never sure if eBay does anything to restrict or punish bad buyers, but if we never properly notify eBay about bad buyer behavior, then nothing can be done.

You should also report this buyer so that there is a record noted about this behavior.  On your Orders page, beside each sold item there is a "Report a Buyer" option ... click on that to communicate what happened.

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is an automobile and I wasn't aware there were different rules thanks. I've canceled the deal and the buyer hasn't responded after several hours which leads me to believe, as I suspected, that they won't.

Ideally I would like to be able to communicate with Ebay directly regarding the concerns but obviously that's not an option which is frustrating.

I've over 600 transactions with a 100% positive rating so it's irritating that I'm at the mercy of this out of order seller to try and resolve the situation.

I perhaps should have just left it as an unpaid item however that gives them however many weeks before the transaction gets cancelled and all the while I'm losing out on potential buyers.

I think there needs to be another option for cancelling a sale along the lines of "Buyer has broken protocol" or something like that which means you don't have to wait for them to agree.

You're not losing out on anything.

You can relist now.

Non-binding bid policy
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/rules-policies-buyers/nonbinding-bid-policy?id=4228

"A non-binding bid is a bid that shows a buyer's interest in purchasing an item, but it doesn't create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller.

All bids made in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicles categories are considered non-binding.

Remember, bids placed in any other category are a legal commitment to purchase the item"

You’re under no obligation to sell it either.  So go ahead and relist

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Thanks for the messages. When I go to the item I'm not given the option to relist. Does this mean I can relist the item but meaning I have to create a whole new listing?

No, ignore me. I can relist it, I just couldn't do it via the app

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Just to update if anyone is interested I still haven't heard from the buyer but I relisted the item and then blocked them. I was going to report them but can't do this as I'm already waiting for them to agree to cancel the order. One thing that confuses me is that if the winning bid on a car is a non-binding contract then how can an unpaid sale case be opened?

Motors bids aren't binding.

Re: Buyer tried to lower price after sale

Unpaid item strikes are arguably the worse "punishment" a seller can give anymore, next time, use it. But for now, just hope they agree to your cancellation, and hopefully the runner up buyer still wants it.
