This is a first for me. A buyer filed a SNAD return, in which my auto-accept took over. Buyer ships it out in 3 days... here's another question I have. How come the return details sometimes shows the return shipping tracking, and sometimes it doesn't? Well in any case, I wasn't given the tracking number on this one.
Five days after the buyer shipped it out, I get some emails from ebay saying the buyer escalated into a case. I haven't received anything. Among those emails is one that I can only imagine is a poorly written non-scripted email from an agent who the buyer called (there is an SR number in the email title). The email is telling me the buyer is complaining and suggesting that I have the buyer return the item for a refund and I need to give them a shipping label. This email seemed redundant because that's exactly what the terms were for the SNAD return... you're just repeating yourself.
So I called ebay and the agent says according to the tracking number (the one that I don't have btw), the buyer requested a STOP on the package 1 day after they sent it out. Both the agent and me found that strange. Because the buyer would have had to pay for the intercept, right? And this entire item cost is less than $18. The agent thought this is very strange, especially since I have gotten zero communication from the buyer. The agent said if I'm willing to wait a few days to see what happens, I said sure. He said after awhile, if nothing happens he'll just credit me out of pocket.
But I'm still curious as to what is going on. Anyone wanna take a stab at it and guess?

At this point, I'd wonder if that was just a scanning error on the part of the USPS. Will they give you the tracking number? I would ask (repeatedly, if necessary) for them to give you the tracking number so that you can see for yourself. That would also enable you to take it to your local PO to ask them what's going on (such as what more they can see of that in their in-house intranet).

I complained about two weeks ago that I could not see tracking on a return. I believe it was Trinton that popped in and said he could see tracking number. I went back to the case, it still took me a minute, but eventually found a drop down menu that had the access to tracking.

That's a new one to me, but please post back here once you get more information. I'd be interested to know how this plays out to add that info to the data I've been collecting on some recent scam returns with falsified tracking numbers that we experienced. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Targeted-By-Malicious-Buyer-False-Returns/td-p/29512410
I hope things work out in your favor, good luck!

I asked the agent for it, and he said he'd email it to me. I hope he doesn't forget to. I also asked him about the details page not showing a tracking number... he chuckled and said "yea, that happens. I have no idea why. I think we have people looking into that"

What people?
"TOP people!"

Fwiw, my guess is that the cost of the initial return shipment and package intercept will be charged back to you. I don't think there is any mechanism on those prepaid return labels to have anyone else pay, other than eBay (you).

You'll be on the hook for that label, so you're out some money for nothing....unless ebay gives you some sort of courtesy refund or something.

Oh, for pity's sake. He could have read the number to you. As for emailing it, he could have done that, too, in less than 60 seconds. If you haven't received it yet, I doubt it's coming.
All that aside, I'm wondering whether the buyer got the PO to take back his package as a Refused/Return to Sender package, in which case it would be traveling back to you under its original tracking number. Have you tried looking at its original tracking number to see if it's showing further scans now?

I doubt that anyone's "looking into that;" he was probably just trying to be positive.

Yes, sounds like there are quite a few holes in the eBay return processes.
Since eBay is automating the returns process, they should consider making the eBay supplied shipping label mandatory as part of the return process.

Seems about typical for eBay.
Wonder how someone who is not the customer of the USPS can redirect a return like this?

And these are the folks we're always being told to call...

And eBay's attitude about that will be that if it's not costing eBay any money- it's not a priority. So sad... too bad!

If you sign up for informed delivery on the USPS website it will show you tracking info on packages getting shipped to you. I find it helpful when I get remorse returns from buyers who don't upload tracking to the return case. It will show the city its shipping from so its usually easy to match up.

HAHAHA. Coincidentally I just saw the Family Guy episode where they spoofed this scene of Raiders. Hilarious.
