Buyer's payment applied mistakenly to defunct old email unsed for over FIVE YEARS

Be forewarned. If a buyer's payment shows in fleabay but not paypal then fleabay may have misapplied their payment. This happened this week when fleabay applied payment to a email I haven't used in YEARS. Claim it autofilled possibly, well I don't use autofill and guarantee I haven't used the email for a LONG TIME. I know for a fact the old email was nowhere in the settings of either entity. From research, it appears I should have left the old email even though I would have no access or get any emails directed to it, but the money would be there. Crimony.

Saddest thing is both fleabay's and paypal's complete and utter incompetence to correct THEIR mistake.

Still dealing with it today, having to request the buyer cancel and remake their payment in hopes the companies profiting off the transaction get it right this time. At a minimum $30 an hour these shareholder appeasers have cost the two of us much more than the item cost. Craigslist looks more appealing every hour this drags on.

Did you check the payment email address shown in THAT listing by clicking relist and looking then backing out so item does not relist?

This is a user to user board not eBay employees.

The wrong address is there. How it got there is a mystery. Love the fact that this may very well affect my seller ratings per eBay's edict.

Was it an ebay motors listing?

And thank you. That's the first that's pointed me to the wrong email showing. It's in no summary of payment or billing from either eBay or Paypal.

I am wondering if this one item was listed from my phone and the old email resided in the app. I had exclusively used a desktop pc.  I don't know why payment preferences wouldn't be universal but this is the only anomaly that could be on my end that I can think of.

Makes sense; as the listing cannot just 'change' an email for payment when it's a new listing. If you 'sell similar' etc. from one of your own listings or used a different form (phone vs. computer) as the 'website' and 'app' are 2 different formats each with their own wonderful 'bugs' in them....

Re: Buyer's payment applied mistakenly to defunct old email unsed for over FIVE YEARS

I just got one today - the email was shut down because the domain changed names 12+ years ago!  I think there was another one at the beginning of the month, but that buyer was not helpful in any way.  In between, I have gotten proper payments.  Is this something that is going on with cc payments maybe?

I just checked, and the proper email is showing in the listing.

Re: Buyer's payment applied mistakenly to defunct old email unsed for over FIVE YEARS

I think my problem was the eBay app holding the old defunct email. Neither eBay or PayPal were any help beyond saying cancel it and do it over("Hey, we're happy to send your buyer's payment into an inaccessible ether...""of course you asking them to cancel dings YOUR seller ratings" Nice catch-22). My buyer is now waiting(for up to 30 days he's told) for his refund. I told him I'll hold the item and hope he still wants it.

Re: Buyer's payment applied mistakenly to defunct old email unsed for over FIVE YEARS

In my case, I found 2 new payment business policies in my account.  One had 3 listings attached and the other had none.  Both were linked to ancient email addresses.  I switched listings to my proper default payment policy, then cancelled the order, notified customer & keeping fingers crossed that they repurchase.

Hope this helps others - CHECK YOUR BUSINESS POLICIES!

Occam's razor would suggest you simply made a mistake and listed one item with the wrong email address.

It never occured to me to check the payment address every **bleep** time because this is the first problem I've had with it. Payment choice should be consistent across platforms.
