Buyer returned wrong item after return case closed

Sold some pc parts May worth £200 and the buyer said it didnt work and opened a case. Then asked if he could keep one part and return the rest. I refused and said i need it all back to test (It all worked when i sent it).

 

The buyer hadnt sent the return by early June so ebay settled the case in my favour.

 

Now a week later I receive a parcel from him with a metal frame (for holding gpus i think) - So not what I sold!

 

Should i contact ebay now and tell them buyer has sent the wrong item back?

 

I'm a little worried as I've heard horror stories about Ebay CS just refunding customers without recourse.

Maybe ask on the UK boards, you may get more responses there, especially this time of the morning over here.

 

I would like to think your buyer will just give up as the case closed and they are obviously scamming, but they are a strange breed so keep any and all proof you have that the incorrect item was received.

If eBay decided the case in your favor, it is closed.  I would keep the item they sent back, just in case, but I would not take any further action.  You got lucky that they did not act in time.  Otherwise you would be refunding their money for the wrong item they sent.

@ferozeak I would wait until the buyer contacts eBay. It doesn't matter if the case was closed in your favor, eBay can, and will, reverse this and still refund the buyer, if tracking shows delivered to you. No point in your arguing to eBay, buyer will not admit to sending the wrong item so eBay will side with the buyer. 

 

Your only alternative would be to offer a partial refund to your buyer in the hopes this settles it for them. If buyer contacts eBay you will lose the entire amount so in your case a partial refund may be your best option. It's only an effort to keep something for yourself from this transaction.
