I recently sold a very large item that I listed as Local Pick Up Only. The buyer made an offer and I accepted it. I clarified that it was pick up only since his address was in MD when I'm in NJ. As soon as he paid he tried asking me to ship it to him instead. I declined and told him again he had to pick it up.
He paid via PayPal, I gave my address for pickup, and he then asked fof my phone number. I figured it would be for future clarification when he was on his way to pick it up or in case he got lost or something like that. I gave him my number and as soon as I did my phone blew up with 40 messages from people with similar numbers. For example if my last 4 digits we're '4566' all the numbers ended in '4567, 4568, 4569, ect'
I called the eBay hotline to ask what they could do and they said his profile is legitimate and his feedback is solid so they'd investigate further.
Should i cancel the transaction?? I'm kinda afraid this is some identify thief scam to get people's address and phone numbers

This is what I find when I look at payment options in help pages:
If your buyer is paying when they collect the item from you, you can accept bank or personal checks, money orders, cash, PayPal, or cards. How quickly the money is available to you will depend on the payment method. We don't recommend accepting personal checks or money orders for payment on pickup because if there's a problem, it could be harder to resolve than with other methods

Double check this..Bill of Sale don't mean anything to Ebay..he can later claim defective and wants to ship it back..or claim he never got it and make a claim on Paypal or even his CC..I think some have overlooked this..
Cash ONLY when it's a local pickup...
YOU CAN'T LIST LOCAL PICKUP WITH CASH ONLY OPTION. Buyer typically cannot make a claim on a item listed with local pickup as the buyer is able to inspect it in person. Just do not mark it shipped. I sold chairs in November and the buyer used PayPal and I still show the item awaiting shipment in Seller Hub. FB exchanged.
@Anonymous
So sorry to bother you all but didn’t you tell us buyers can file NAD on local pickup?
Also can you tell everyone here that we cannot demand cash on pickup? We can accept cash but cannot demand it as far as I know. Thank you all & have a great day! 😀😀❤️😎
Hi @mg152! It's no bother at all Buyers can open a Not As Described return for local pickup items. However, this is pretty rare since buyers typically get to inspect items for local pickup transactions.
An approved electronic payment method is required for local pickup items. Accepting cash on pickup is fine, but an electronic payment method option must be available as well. Sellers cannot require buyers pay with cash and they cannot discourage buyers from paying with PayPal (or the approved electronic payment method the listing offers).

"There is zero need for either party to need phone numbers."
1. You are Wrong
2. I have had the need to call or receive call from two buyers & a seller 3 since 2008. One time the other party (a seller) DID NOT RESPOND to my eBay messages and a reply was needed to finalize the outcome of a transaction and the other two times to communicate changes in original ETA times for a customer pick-up > customer running late because their dog drank the last beer or other popcorn like reason
3. Agree communication should be with eBay message
4. after reading your replies to your neutral/neg FB i might understand why you would want to talk to a buyer
I never want to talk to a buyer and 3 times in ten years and 30,000+ transactions is ≈ never.
I am here SPECIFICALLY so I do not have to converse with customers.
There was no reason to summon me.

I think it would be difficult for a buyer to convince e bay of a SNAD since they had the chance to inspect it, try it on or plug it in upon pick up . Tulips

@bonjourami wrote:The buyer would have a difficult time claiming snad when he inspected the item before pick up, what he CAN do, if he paid by cc at PP, is file a chargeback with unauthorized use of his cc,since there is no tracking number to prove delivery...which saves sellers from fake chargeback claims with cc's at PP..

In certain situations eBay will side with the buyer in the case of a SNAD claim even when the buyer chose a local pick up. i.e. "The Rolex looked genuine to me (buyer) at the time that I picked it up from the seller, but what do I know, I am an amateur when it comes to authenticating Rolex watches. So, when I took it to my local authorized Rolex dealer they informed me that the Rolex watch that I purchased here on eBay was indeed a fake."
I am not saying that this is right on eBay's part. I am just informing you that indeed eBay will honor a buyer's SNAD claim with the Local Pick Up delivery option, in certain situations.
