Buyer "Ordered by mistake and didn't know how to cancel" Scam?

Buyer buys a 900 dollar thing. I ship it out. The night before it is set to arrive, he/she starts a return saying,"Ordered by mistake and didn't know how to cancel"  He never tried to contact me by email or anything. It is too late for me to intercept it. Is this a scam?

Re: Buyer "Ordered by mistake and didn't know how to cancel" Scam?

As inconceivable as it may sound, it may have indeed been ordered by accident.

I had a customer place an order on New Years Eve around 11:30pm via best offer.

The offer was accepted by me.

I later received an eBay message from the customer that they had ordered accidentally.

So, while the ball was dropping on New Year's Eve into New Years Day, I was carefully packaging an order only to find out when I went online (to submit final weight/dimensions of the box for a shipping label) that I was accepting an order cancel instead.

I'm fine with the cancellation. Guess I was lucky it happened before I shipped out.

Hard to be angry at the customer. Was thinking it was a    champagne    motivated user error.

No signature. I'm thinking there is a 20% chance he sends back something else in the box

@golfwrxbarrysanders : Just curious: How did this turn out?

Oh, with no signature even if he receives the item he can open an INR and get a full refund

No signature means he can keep it, file an item not received, and you'll lose the case (because there's no signature, you need that on $750 or more).

Buyers can only request a cancellation, they can't actually cancel anything.  Only the seller can process a cancellation.

Sadly many buyers don't communicate well with their sellers, for whatever reason they may have.

Just process the return request.  Fighting it will ONLY hurt you and your stats.  Let them return it.

You just lost an Item Not Received claim.

PYA.

Send a Return Shipping Label immediately.

Tell the buyer to attach the RSL and return the shipment for a full refund.

And that he doesn't even need to open the box. Just tape on the label and hand it back to the carrier.

Don't try to get cute.
