Buyer opened INR from January

Today a buyer opened an INR saying they never got an item they bought in January. The tracking no longer works so I have no idea if they got it or not, either way I don't understand waiting this long. They never contacted me about the item before now. It says in resolution center "Your action is required by May 7." Can they actually escalate a case they waited this long to open? What will happen if I don't provide working tracking (since the # no longer works) before May 7? Will anything happen this late?

Was this dispute opened in PayPal?  If the item was purchased in January it is long past the MBG deadline.

How do we handle a situation like this?  How does a seller protect themselves in a situation like this?  Since is it so old can the buyer even win such a claim?

Clarification please.

I forget, what’s the maximum time allowed for a buyer to file an INR?

I ask because I’m in a similar situation where a buyer barely messaged me today about not receiving the item they bought in 10/19/2019, about 198 days ago. Like the OP, the tracking has also basically dissipated. They haven’t opened an official INR tho.

I think they can open them on Ebay but can't win one.  However I think it would be best to find out from one of the guys hopefully tomorrow.

The eBay limit to escalate is 30 days. Not sure if there is a limit to start a case. The Paypal limit to open a claim is 180 days. Credit card chargeback limits depend on the buyer's card company.

I'm no computer programmer but you would think ebay would make it so that is was not even possible to file a INR claim after X amount of days.

How that is even possible, I dont know. I just went into my past purchases to see if there was a way to open ip an INR and I seen no way there to do it. Thatmperson would have had to call the dispute in. I did find this though....

Extended timelines for eBay Money Back Guarantee coverage

In some limited situations, we may extend the period of time in which a buyer is eligible for the eBay Money Back Guarantee. This extra time allows us to take into consideration the buyer's location, the shipping service used, a seller's extended return window, national holidays, or delays due to circumstances such as natural disaster, national emergency, labor strike, or governmental act, or other circumstances such as fraud. In most instances, when we extend timelines for eBay Money Back Guarantee coverage, in cases where the seller is responsible for requests opened during such an extended timeline, we notify sellers with an announcement on eBay.com.

Surely this doesnt mean months later?

Was this an international sale?

Hopefully  all that's  going on here is Ebay appeasing the buyer by granting their dispute but ultimately denying buyer a refund. My grief , who does these sorts  of things? Have people no shame?

The 30-day limit from the latest estimated delivery date is (supposedly) the deadline to submit the case, not escalate it.

T"30-day limit from the latest estimated delivery date is (supposedly) the deadline to submit the case, not escalate it"

But eBay doesnt call it a case until it's escalated before then it's a "request"

I would just provide the tracking number used, even if the tracking history is no longer visible. I don't think they can escalate to eBay after all this time, so the claim should be able to be closed.

Hi @mam98031 - the eBay Money Back Guarantee (eMBG) covers a purchase for 30 days from the day it was delivered (for SNAD), or 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date (for INRs).

Even if a buyer is outside those time frames they are allowed to open a request with a member they purchased from - this is to facilitate communication between parties, and is independent from the Guarantee.

If we are asked to step into a request that does not qualify for coverage under the eMBG, we would not require action from either party.

Thanks!

Tyler,

While they are extended, that doesn't mean they reach back to January, over 90 days ago.

I think due to the current crisis there are buyers filing false Item not received claims in an effort to get money back for spending. They're desperate for funds and view ebay as the easiest target in which to file a claim. It's fraud and it's really a shame.
