Buyer non-payment on "immediate payment required" auction

I searched every avenue I could find, tried the automated assistant, an online agent, and various phone numbers for help for hours and came up with zilch on this subject:

My item was listed as BIN and "Immediate payment required". The buyer purchased in on the 17th, and still has not paid for their purchase. Ebay sent 1 reminder and I sent 3. I want to cancel the auction but there is no option for "buyer did not pay". Only for "buyer asked to cancel" which they did not as I have had no response from them. I keep getting the "after 4 calendar days you can ask ebay to cancel the transaction", but do you really have to wait the 4 days when you select the "immediate payment required"? And if so, why is there even an option if people have up to 4 days to pay? I want to cancel and relist, but don't want to have to pay all the fees since I did not get paid by the buyer!

It is either an ebay glitch or you think you checked immediate payment required but it didn't take.   Either way, you will have to wait the 4 days before cancelling the sale.

When you relist the item, double check that immediate payment required is checked.

Your terminology is a bit confusing and I cannot find a completed listing for you that's more recent than Feb. 9th, but if it was actually an auction ending with a winning bid, Immediate Payment Required does not apply; the buyer has four days to pay.

If you had a BuyItNow listing (either as a standalone Fixed Price listing or an auction that included a BIN price as well) and the buyer hit the BIN button, then it should have taken an Immediate Payment to end it.

I checked a couple of your listings, and I didn't see the notation about Immediate Payment Required at the bottom of the payments tab. Maybe the eBay gremlins unchecked it.

The cancellation option for "Buy did not pay" appears if the buyer doesn't pay within 4 full days (i.e., 96 hours).

You can use "Immediate payment required" for BIN items, but you also mention " I want to cancel the auction".

If indeed it was an auction, there is no immediate pay. You have to follow this policy for unpaid auctions,

"After you’ve made a sale on eBay, it’s usually a smooth process to complete the transaction with the buyer, but sometimes you might find yourself in a situation where the buyer hasn’t yet paid for the item they bought. If that happens, you can cancel the order after 4 calendar days".

In the past unpaid took 8 days to resolve.

There is no such thing as "immediate payment required" on a auction.

Buyer non-payment on "immediate payment required" auction

Ok everyone, I apologize for using the term "auction" when I actually mean "listings". Just a bad habit from the old days I guess, I will be more careful in the future..

On all of my listings I check off BIN, accept offers, and immediate payment required. After that I preview the listing and then post it, then go to the listing to preview it for mistakes. I just checked all of my current listings, and they are all BIN with immediate payment required. So if this particular listing got sold without that feature clicked, it was not of my doing and could have been a glitch as mentioned.

The buyer of this auction has good feedback, my issue is that they have not responded to my requests or to Ebay's . I would rest more easily if the person was in communication with us or had responded to Ebay...

Yes, you really do. Not all buyers are at their computers each and every day as they have lives outside of Ebay. Many do not even realize they won an auction for a couple days. Also there is no such thing as immediate payment required for auctions, it is only for BIN.

@germanautopros*

Did you perhaps "accept an offer"?  That would also negate the 'immediate payment required' for most cases.

Most likely the OP uses the out of stock feature which is why you can't see it in sold/completed search view.

Since all of the OP's listings have 'make offer' on them, @ittybitnot is probably right that this was an offer sale where IPR doesn't apply.

Auctions don't have an Immediate Payment Required  option-- although eBay has been experimenting with one.

You had a Fixed Price listing with Immediate Payment Required. Why that didn't kick in is a mystery.

Yes, you have to wait the four days for eBay to Cancel the Unpaid Item.

FWIW this is faster than the six to eight days it took until just a few months ago. Plus it is now automatic instead of a seller action.

I check off BIN, accept offers, and immediate payment required.

That may be the problem.

If you accept an Offer, the buyer may not be at his computer when you do, so he gets time to pay.

When eBay cancels the transaction, you can relist immediately, but be careful, eBay may have also done that automatically.

(This is a new policy and not everything about it is completely settled.)

All your fees will be returned.

My listings haven't showed that for a few years now?

I thought they had removed it?

Have a great day.

@femmefan1946

There are no fees until the item is paid for.

Hey @femmefan1946! The cancellation of unpaid items process has been in place for a full year. Which part of it do you believe to be unsettled?

Final value fees aren't charged until an item is paid for. If the seller paid ad fees for Promoted Listings Standard then those would be credited.

Immediate Payment Required gets voided when Best Offer is enabled. See policy link for more info below.

When using the Best Offer option in a listing, immediate payment isn't required for most buyers. However, some buyers may be asked to confirm their payment and shipping details when they're making an offer…”
