Buyer made a false claim that he received an empty package and I'm afraid he will get away with it.

I sold a $100 trading card to a buyer who offered the highest and I shipped the item in a bubblewrap envelope folded in half. The buyer has a 100% positive feedback with over 130 reviews. I'm a new seller and this is the very first item I've ever sold and I feel like this is why he's targeting me. The buyer says he recorded the opening as he does with all his other packages just in case situations like this occur which I think is a bit too convenient on his part. The only picture he provided is a picture of the sealed envelope. I don't know what the next course of action is. Should I call eBay or request the buyer to send the video? The video could also be faked because the package was just a simple envelope folded in half and taped.

It is clear that the buyer is abusing the eBay Money Back Guarantee in hopes to get his money back while keeping the item for himself. I am in a panic because I'm afraid of losing the money and letting this person get away with it while he damages my reputation.

Your buyer has to file a police report stating they received an empty package before ebay or paypal can refund.

Re: Buyer made a false claim that he received an empty package and I'm afraid he will get away with

The buyer has already requested a refund and I have until the 18th to take action. On his feedback left for others, he has given about 175 and about 5 were negative. One of the negative reviews looks like a similar case with mine where he claims the seller never sent out the item. Thanks for your help!

I printed a shipping label straight from eBay and slapped it on the envelope. I brought it straight to USPS and gave it to the person at the counter so I could get a receipt. I don't know about the insurance as this is my first time actually ever shipping anything.

The buyer has requested a refund and I have until the 18th to take action. I forgot to mention that. I see one return request in the resolution center if that is what you mean when you ask if the buyer has opened a case. I will consider your advise. Thanks for your help!

Hi! I did send it with tracking. He already requested a refund for "missing items or parts" and I have until the 18th to take action. I see one return request in the resolution center. Not sure if that means he opened a case as I'm not seeing anything else. I will let him know that I will get to the bottom of this. Thanks for your help!

Re: Buyer made a false claim that he received an empty package and I'm afraid he will get away with

His feedback left for others were all mostly positive with about 5 out of 175 of them being negative. One of them had a similar case like this one. I'll probably let USPS know but I'm unsure about the insurance because this is my first time ever shipping anything. Thanks for the help!

Nope! The card was protected in a card sleeve in between two pieces of thick cardboard. The envelope was folded because it was big for such a small item.

Did you ship it as a First Class Package, or by Priority Mail?

Priority gives you insurance, 50 dollars I believe.

So it's quite possible the fold came loose and the package was torn open in shipping?

The buyer did provide a picture of the package and everything was in tact, including the tape that I used, which has convinced me that he is indeed making a false claim

"The shipping label says "USPS FIRST-CLASS PKG""

---------

Then you don't have any insurance with the USPS

Unless you paid for insurance, the buyer knows it’s not insured unfortunately, which is why this is probably happening to you. 😞

Is this something new?   Is it in the rules someplace?

Typically, no evidence is required other than the buyer's "word".

In this situation we don't even know if the buyer has filed a claim or is just 'shaking the seller's tree'.

It came up on a different thread and the call center told that seller they needed to do that.  It was the first I have ever heard of that too.  I don't know if it is a new rule or misinformation.
