Messaging the buyer is not an adequate response to an open Not As Described or Damaged claim. You must follow the appropriate procedure to respond to the claim by authorizing a return on time or Ebay will step in and refund.

A bit confused... did the buyer ask for a discount or did the buyer open a Return request?

When you get a return request like this, you have to respond to it in the request.
If you want the item returned to you, then you have to select the first option, as shown below. If you don't respond to the request, or if you choose "Give a full refund" then the buyer will not be asked to return the item to you.

I think maybe you got a bit confused. In order for this to happen, the buyer must have opened a Request for Return Case. You would have been notified of this case via an email from Ebay.
A seller has a specific process for a case. Did you follow the protocol?
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/returning-item?id=4041
A seller has 3 days to respond inside the claim and approve the return and issuing a return shipping label. If a seller doesn't do that, an option appears on the claim that allows either party to ask Ebay to step in. If your buyer did that, it usually results in Ebay forcing the seller to fully refund the buyer, the seller doesn't get their fees refunded and the seller gets a defect on their account for not resolving this case.
You can't get your item back now. You could have if you had of approved the Request for Return, now it is simply too late. Fortunately this wasn't an expensive item.
We all make mistakes. Learn from it and move on to not repeat this again in the future.

We need more information on any return requests being made. Did the buyer ask for a return request? Ebay doesn't just hand out a refund. It has to go through the system and you would have to ask Ebay to review.

Sounds like you denied the return. Why either of you wants a broken vase is a mystery to me.

He said he will keep
the vase only if I refund him half of what he paid ( I always gave him a discount when he bought the vase )
I offered him a different amount as a refound . The next thing i got an email from eBay telling me they refund him full amount and he will keep the vase

I never got any option
ebay said I agree for an auto refund

It was 1800 $ item

Curious...did buyer photo damage of item to you?...buyer doesn't have to but it would be easier to see if the truth is out there.
If there was an open claim for a return as item not as described, etc. you have to issue a return shipping label.
Sounds like buyer escalated claim and got refund and free item.
Partial refunds don't always work between seller and buyer...
Why would buyer want a damaged $1800. item is strange...so it probably wasn't damaged.

If you're saying the buyer messaged you for a partial refund, you countered the partial refund amount, and then the next day eBay just refunded his money, that didn't happen. There is much more to this story. Can you tell us everything that happened?

Curious...how does a $1400 item turn into $1800?

I think there is way more to this story.
Look at the feedback the OP receives and see that is speaks for its self.

I'm not clear what happened either, but if they offered a partial through a not as described case and the buyer refused, then ebay will handle rather quickly. There was a thread recently where the question was asked what happened if a buyer denies the partial refund offered in a case.
