I sold an authentic Louis Vuitton bag on eBay. All aspects of the bag documented with pictures. The buyer got the bag and is asking to return it because she stated it was not authentic and had stains. As proof, she put up pictures of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BAG! Instead of being backed up by Ebay, they are refunded her money and leaving things up to me. What happens if she sends me back the wrong bag and not the bag I sold her. I can't believe that EBAY has proof in front of them that she is wrong and they are not backing me up. I don't think I will continue to do business with eBay if this is their policy. Also, there has been a rise in scams this year according to the rep I spoke with.

S.C. was the abbreviation for signature confirmation. I really hate to tell you this but you were required by ebay to have signature confirmation on this package ( anything over $750)
This is where the scam buyer got you. Tracking is usually proof of delivery and scammer received a package, they are just claiming it was " the wrong package of another LV bag". Had you had signature on this package, she couldn't make this claim.
Do everything to try and get your bag back now, and document everything. When that bag comes back and it is indeed a counterfeit, Buyer could be charged with this and mail fraud and possibly theft. This transaction will end up being a nightmare but hang tight and best of luck to you. ( you may want to retain a local lawyer also)

@helenof2 wrote:Sorry what doe S. C. stand for? I did not have signature confirmation but I sent it UPS with tracking info. I know this buyer is trying to scam me with a fake LV. Ebay said if I do not receive the bag I sent her, it's my turn to file a claim against her. I am going to investigate other means. I have her address. Could I do anything with that? This is not just for me . Do you realize that now any buyer can pull this scam?
You sent a $1700 bag thru UPS and did not require the Adult Buyer sign for it at delivery? Reading this correct?

Topic has turned a bit interesting to me:
For the authenticity system in place for some items a method has been devised.
Such can not be for all items,
Yet a service that documents what was sent and what was returned might be an idea.
For other items of higher value:
A confirmation system of shipped item and returned item. Of course such would have to be a company set up to do such as they also would be a target for scams.
High liability would be the problem with such. This for sure would have to be limited to price payed and of course a cost to do so added to such items.
Well it is an idea only as such would be difficult due to some one actually going out and making a company to do such etc... Time and increase in scams will eventually make such an idea a viable business for some one out there.
Just saying.

Sorry - should have kept reading all the way thru. See where Silver confirms you did not require SC.
What a hot mess. Your options now are really limited. You have received some great advice on here, please follow it.
Shame you didn't roundtable this potential sale before you listed it. The wise folks on here would have helped you understand the scam trajectory that you're entangled in now was not only possible, but very likely.
Good luck. $1700 is a lot of nickels and a horrible way to learn about thieves.

Ahhh yeah Katz your reading this right.
I placed a PM to a poster who actually is affiliated with Louis Vitton purses and described the situation and provided the link to this post. Maybe they can help with the legal aspect of who the OP can contact in case a counterfeit gets mailed to her.
EBay won't protect OP as she didn't get the required signature.

All LV have a s/n identifer correct? That you can report stolen? They have to be used to insure the bags, etc (like Birkin bags, etc)
Her bag is probably 12 states over by now, re-sold on black mkt for a fraction of value.

Only solution I can think of is to sell expensive hand bags with hidden 'ink bombs' inside that can be detonated by remove within 6 months of purchase if you get scammed...
Joking but not really joking... always makes me so sad when someone is scammed hard out of an expensive item. 😞

Agree totally, I'm really not sure if they have a hotline to report stolen bags with identifying numbers or not. That's why I Pm that LV expert.
Really like the idea that @jonathankirkland. had about the ink packet!
OP will probably have to wait and see what she receives back before moving forward.

"I sold an authentic Louis Vuitton bag on eBay."
That was your first mistake and it was critical....
You will be lucky if you get ANYTHING back..but I will bet 10x the value of the bag you won't get back what you shipped.
This scam is as old as ebay itself and ebay puts 100% of the risk on the seller...tough luck is the official policy.
Lesson learned, right?

I did have the buyer sign for the bag! I was wrong in a previous post

My husband sent me an article that said: SELLER SUES EBAY FOR ALLEGED “BUYER ALWAYS WINS POLICY”. It was dated march 24, 2021. A San Francisco based eBay seller filed a class action lawsuit against eBay and paypal for, among other things, Breach of Contract and Unfair Business Practices, alleging that eBay has created a buyer always wins policy to the detriment of sellers. Maybe I can find out more about this!

I hope something like this really does happen and cost them billions since that's what they've been doing to sellers for the last 10-15 years.

Hmm where do you find this article dated 3-24-21? The only one I can find that matches those exact words has a date of 8-25-14. 😕
