I sold an older LV item that came from an estate sale recently. Before I listed it, I did a lot of research to at least make my own self comfortable that it wasn't an obvious counterfeit. Had it been, I would have never listed it, that is NOT how I roll. I've found multiple sales of a the same and similar (different colors) here that go back months and all referenced that it was an "older" piece. I also saw a couple sold on outside sites that said the same. It had plenty of bids, too.

Buyer has had item nearly 4 weeks now and has today decided that they *believe* it's not authentic and want to know how I can prove to them it is real. They flat out called it "highly illegal" to sell. While I agree with that notion, she doesn't even know that it is fake, she just wants me to prove that it is real. Shouldn't these concerns have been raised before now? Short of paying someone to authenticate it, that is simply not possible. I would only consider doing this if I had it back in my hands and in the condition I sent it (which was near perfect).

For the record, I've offered a refund upon return, but I have a feeling she isn't really wanting that. I went back through her FB... she's left 4 negatives for "fakes" and used that "highly illegal" term there, too. I can't imagine why anyone one keep buying higher end items here if they got "ripped off" so much. I know I would not.

I have an otherwise perfect record and there was zero intent to do anything wrong on my part. I will refund if I get it back, but I already have a bad feeling... and why did it take so long to decide that it wasn't authentic?!

Any advice from the more seasoned vets here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No matter what you will forced to accept a return. Get the bag back.

But still post the listing pics on Fashion.

You have already suggested that she simply return the item to you.

The issue is the authenciticy of the item, not the item condition.

Self authentication is not expert authentication by someone disinterested in the outcome.

Both you and your buyer would need to agree to which authentication service the item would be submitted.

Buyers will dispute even authentication and even with it, ebay may still allow a return for refund. Even if what you sent is authentic, there's no guarantee that what you receive back will be! You can't win selling Designer anything here.

It's simply too risky. Ebay has some type of designer valet service that will sell those items for you. I don't know the details, but I received a message just today promoting the sale of your designer bags thru them. I deleted it since I will never ever sell designer items here for a variety of reasons, including what you're running into.

I would simply reply with the return for refund request, as suggested by others.

The scarf you sold WAS fake and the buyer is absolutely correct.

The fact that she doesn't do her due diligence and buys fakes without realizing isn't a good thing but as a seller, YOU are the one who should have verified authenticity before listing.

I actually purchased several items from the same sale, all supposedly "high end". The scarf I've now confirmed is a fake, so now I understand why the buyer is questioning her piece, they all came from the same home. I believe that I was ripped off, too, but that is on me and not her responsibilty whatsoever.

She has already been fully refunded with my apologies and I've sent her money to send it back to me so that I at least try and pursue a refund from the estate sale people. No, I am not holding my breath, but I don't think these pieces should have been represented to me the way they were, either, so I guess I can at least try.

I will in no way, shape or form attempt to sell any high end pieces again without being ABSOLUTELY sure that they are real.

Oh, no! Never refund without getting your item back! And never send money for postage, always send an eBay return label (assuming not an overseas sale). I hope this works out for you.

They can't help the OP. The OP sold a SCARF. That program authenticates & then sells luxury bags on behalf of the seller. They also do not authenticate items unless you send them in to be sold by their experts.

Just sent a purse to Ebay authenticate. I will tell you how it goes. There is a 50 50 chance it is real and wife paid 5 bucks for it. I will let you know how it goes. 20percent really isnt bad if it turns out to be real.

we have a couple of LV stores here in town - when I get one (rare) I simply pop over to the store - they can tell in a minute - I kinda stopped listing handbags a few years back. I have a MK sitting here on my desk I might have a stab at for xmas - I have the original receipt in the handbag so it probably won't be a problem

Just ask her to open the return - chances are she won't - just another scammer

Authentication issues are all pretty much guaranteed for the buyer.
Another issue you can run into with this is the buyer really does not have to send it back as it is illegal for them to put it in the mail just as much as it is for you to require they do. They may send it back but if they know the laws then they won't...and they will still get a refund.

And if they are a purse buyer then considering this is ebay and the mount of fakes on the site, it is understandable if they have had other issues....so take that with a grain of salt. (I would be surprised if all of a sudden everyone now decides that designer purses is not one of largest categories of counterfeits on the site just to trash a buyer.)

If you are not 100% sure and can prove it, then rule of thumb is do not list it.

Oh, you're right! I meant that to be for when the seller gets the bag back. Sorry I was not more specific there.

Sorry, OP did not so specify~and I thought it was a purse when I saw LV~as did numerous other posters in this thread. Hence the link for ebay's bag authentication service.
