Hey all.
I had a buyer that won an auction but didn't pay after 2 days and didn't reply to me sending an invoice. I opened up an Unpaid Item request, and 3 days later, they sent me a message saying they don't want the item anymore since they bought it elsewhere. What am I supposed to do about this? I don't want to cancel the transaction as I want the strike to go on their account since there's no other way of warning future sellers of this behavior. The buyer has never responded to me beforehand or gotten in contact with me before today.
Thanks for any help, this is really frustrating and being led on by a bad buyer is annoying.

Please let me know ~ if you do not want the item, it is perfectly okay with me to cancel the transaction.I don't like wording that may create an impression that a buyer cancellation is really no inconvenience.
You don't want to create a belief that cancellations are perfectly OK, & a common buyer practice on eBay.
...I have never had one of these flakes ever take me up on that offer which has always surprised me.
I HAVE had a few immediately, after winning, ask me to cancel a transaction which of course I do...heaven forbid I hold their feet to the fire and MAKE them purchase the item as agreed to - so they begrudgingly pay for it and then when it comes in - they open an INAD case against me...now...which scenario would you prefer...
I would much rather cancel the sale than make them buy it...get it...open an INAD case against me...now I have to either pay the postage to get it back (so I'm out the cost of postage BOTH WAYS) or better yet...just refund them & not require them to return my item...ka-ching - ka-ching let that cash register ring! ...talk about encouraging bad buyer behavior...
Neither options sound appealing to me...I lose $$$ on either option. I would much rather cancel the sale, put the flake on my BBL and never deal with them again...I have never lost money on this option yet. 😊

Yes, unfortunately some eBay policies encourage bad rather than enforce good behavior.

Why would you contact CS? Your UID is your complaint. When they don’t pay, it automatically goes on their record.

Yeah...the customer is always right policy drives me batty!!! 🦇
You will not find this policy in my store but we do need to play by eBay's rules...
...sigh...
