TLDR-Buyer through eBay messages confirmed headphones were not broken, sent as described. Outside of ebay, he opened an dispute through paypal. I did not see notification, did not respond in time. What can be done?
Hi, I am fairly new to ebay. I sold an expensive pair of headphones, $280, as new unopened. The buyer received them, thanked for me for the purchase, said they sounded great, even asked if I had more.
Fast forward a week later, and the guy clearly had remorse. This is nothing new in HIFI.
He tried describing them as not working that one side had distorted bass, I went through a few things with him to troubleshoot knowing he was lieing. Eventually, having alot of experience in headphones I basically, kindly told him that was not possible for XYZ reasons. But that he could return with a restocking fee. I sold them as no returns.
He admitted he did not like the sound compared to another headphone ect. and that he'd like to return them. I did not hear back from him.
Today, I wake up to an ebay email telling me that Paypal reversed my payment for my monthly fee's. I log into paypal and see that my account was limited, they're holding on to my funds, and that the headphone payment was reversed. I search my email and find that he opened a case and I never responded.
My paypal email is linked to a personal email address, that is full of ads, and most recently 100's/day of car sales alerts (I was recently looking for a new car). I do not pay much attention to this email, and especially haven't the past two weeks. My sister was in the hospital, and has been staying at my place w/ 24/7 care. Plus work has been crazy ect.
Anyways, what are my options now? I've already sent a firm message to the buyer asking to return the headphones. If he doesn't return the headphones, can I contact paypal and have it reversed?
I did hint at a small claim action, which I am not averse to.
Is there any other resolution?
BTW already learned my lesson, will be forwarding paypal to my current email. Same one as eBay, which I figured is all I had to follow for any disputes.

Restocking fees are no longer allowed on Ebay, your buyer would have received a refund if you had charged him that.Paypal sees you as a non responsive seller who ignored the case. All you can do is ask your buyer to send the item back, maybe offer to pay for shipping...fyi, you also received a serious defect for not responding to the case. There is no way for you to reverse the case.

your buyer may have filed at PP because it was past the thirty day limit to file at Ebay..its 180 days at PP.

Yep, big mistake by me. I figured everything would go through eBay, I have the app on my phone that notifies me and that I watch continuously. This just sucks.

Just be aware that there is no such thing as no returns on Ebay..not for a not as described item. You can probably go to your Seller Dashboard and see the defect there..in My Ebay.

Well...you aren't too far off. Paypal used to be owned by ebay and was part of the company but they got slapped around by Carl Ichan who loves to ruin business by buying bit and slicing off just enough to make money at everone elses' expense but his.
They had to spin it off back to its own entity so a billionaire could take advantage of share holders.
