I listed some Vossen wheels and a guy placed the minimum bid of $900. The auction was 10 days. He was the only bidder so the wheels were his. I sent him a quote for shipping the wheels to Delaware from Oklahoma. He contacted me and said he couldn't afford the shipping and the wheels were the wrong size. He asked me to cancel the order. I told him I would contact Ebay and get back to him. Today I got a notice from Ebay that "I" had cancelled the order. I didn't cancel the order! What is going on? I am ticked off that the bidder didn't ask any questions prior to the auction ending. Will Ebay charge me their commission?

@amplebks The platform is automatically set up to cancel all orders in which the buyer hasn't paid by the fourth day. Your wheels sold on the 22nd and buyer never paid, that's why it was canceled automatically. Yes, the buyer should have read the description but no one can force a buyer to pay on a transaction. This buyer will receive a notation of a non payment on their account. More of those and they will be limited in future purchases from sellers who have restrictions. You will only be out the .30 cent listing fee. You can relist the wheels to sell them again. Best of luck to you....

Here is a link to dealing with non payment from buyers:

If they were headed to Delaware, it might have been to a freight forwarder. Maybe the buyer realized that there was more cost involved after they actually arrived to their location. The 'wrong size' claim is moot... the buyer should have checked that before purchasing.
I am a bit confused as to how eBay thought you had cancelled the order, though. What was the reason that they say you used to cancel?
Nevertheless, you should receive a credit on your FVFs for the cancellation. Sorry you had a scrub buyer.

How else could this have gone?
eBay police travel to the buyer's home and beat them into paying?
There's no way to force the buyer to pay.
You're actually very lucky. As you don't accept returns, if you had gone through with the deal with a customer who doesn't want the item, you might have lost both the item and your money. Sellers in here have reported losing more than you would have. In a way, eBay protected you.

Well, something is off here. Your wheel listing states “free shipping” under the title, and UPS under the shipping section. But if you had to quote shipping after the sale, then it sounds like your listing wasn't set up with all the information necessary for a buyer to make an informed decision. Sellers cannot calculate shipping after the sale and invoice the buyer. It all must be set up in the listing, where there are four choices: free, calculated, flat rate, or local pick up. How did you have your listing set up?

Sometimes the absolute best outcome is when a buyer does not pay.

I am ticked off (at myself) that I referred to yours as a 'scrub buyer' after reading Ken's and fashun's posts.
I should have checked your listing myself. My bad.
What questions should the buyer have asked (about shipping cost), when you offered Free Shipping?
