Buyer did not recognize transaction claim filed with CC - buyer claims fraud on his end

Hi - I know this topic has been beaten down on this message board, but here's my twist:  The buyer admits that he ordered and received the item, but that SOMEONE ELSE filed the claim (fraudulently) with his CC company.  I am willing to give the benefit of a doubt here, and the item was of very low value so I don't really care what happens (though I would be p.o.'d if the buyer ends up getting the item for free).

Has anyone else had this experience?  What would be the benefit of a third party disputing the charge (plausibly)?

I just had one of these the other day when ebay sent me a message saying buyer filed dispute with the cc as they didn`t recognize the transaction. Upon checking on what that buyer buys, I could see that the items in the same category were in the buyer`s history. So most likely, remorse ($5.99 item!) and thought that credit card would just credit that amount without going through process since it is such a small amount. But looks like the credit card company for one reason or another didn`t post the credit and decided to go through the process.

It is very unlikely (although can happen) situation when "someone else" is involved in the story.

Its NOT YOUR PROBLEM.  Buyer bought and received the item.  End of Story.  I want to say that ebay is going to side with you.  But now, ebay goes all over the place.  What ever you do, DON'T REFUND.  Let the buyer deal with ebay.

Good luck on your selling journey!

If that's true (and it sounds pretty ridiculous), then he's got way bigger problems with his own credit card account that he needs to deal with first, and you have no additional involvement due to this story. If there is an unrecognized-charge dispute, you will need to provide tracking that shows that you shipped to the address received with the payment.

Furthermore, I have been on your position.  Just reply with the tracking number.  That's what I did.

Good luck on your selling journey!  If you have questions, I am here to help.

Hello,

This is one of few dispute reasons that eBay provides seller protection on.

You just beed to make sure 1) you delivered to the exact address on the order and 2) you have delivered tracking.

Even if your customers financial institution sides with the buyer and reverses the payment, these funds will come from ebay.

You should learn more about these types of disputes and all your seller protections. Check out the link below.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293

When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognize the transaction

When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognize the transaction, sellers will be asked to provide:

  • Evidence of successful delivery to the address provided by the buyer at checkout, or
  • Proof that the buyer collected the item

If eBay determines that the item was successfully delivered or picked up:

  • We will not seek reimbursement from the seller for the disputed amount, even if the payment institution decides that the buyer is owed a refund; and
  • We will waive or refund the seller's dispute fee

If the buyer don's know.  Best person in this forum to ask, its @mam98031 .  He/she works for EBAY.

I don't work for Ebay nor have I ever worked for them.  So where ever you got that, it is bad information.  I am just a seller that has been active on Ebay for over 20 years.

I have no idea what you are talking about or how that pertains to my response to your other post.

Just for a refresher, below was what I responded to and and what responded.
