Buyer did not pay for item, what are my options would rather just relist

Buyer has not paid for 2 items that I sold (2 seperate buyers) I sent them both an invoice and messaged directly. I thought they might have been on vacation or something for the 4th.

In any case, it's been 6 days now. I opened a case on one but what I'm wondering is if I can just cancel the item and relist. That would be faster for getting it sold...the second chance offer I gave to someone that "purchased the wrong item" didn't come to anything either

Perhaps I am being too nice but I haven't ever had a problem with people not paying. Advice is appreciated. They are SNES games btw.

You need to be very careful about the reason you use for cancelling.  The wrong one, like out of stock, can give you a defect.

You also need to close out one transaction before you start another.  That is in case the first does pay and then you resell it to someone else.  Two people - one item.  Out of stock transaction - dreaded defect.

After 2 days you can file non pay, then close after 4days.  You will get your fees back.  Once that closes then you can relist.

So right now put through non payment notices.  If they still have not paid after 4 days, close them.  Wait until they close, and then you are free to relist,

You may also want to block them.

Just file the UPI and be done with it.  They are SNES games, they are not going to lose value tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and might even be worth more.

Wherever you go, there you are. Please remember, when you are asked if you are a god, you say yes.

If you have already opened an unpaid item case, then it is no longer possible to cancel the transaction instead.  Just wait and close it if the buyer doens't pay within 4 days after you filed.

It was a mistake to send a Second Chance Offer before you closed out the original transaction, just as it would be a mistake to relist before you close the unpaid item case -- both of those put you at risk of having two paying buyers for one item.

This isn't a question of being "nice."  These buyers have failed to hold up their end of the deal, and if you don't give them their well-deserved strikes then they will keep inconveniencing other sellers too.

Hi there. What I do in a similar situation is advise the customer his or her order (s) is ready pending final disposition of payment. If on my 3rd follow-up I still get no reply, I cancel the transaction, inform eBay about the issue and get the item (s) relisted. No use getting upset for there are buyers of  that persuasion. It might be good for you rather than shipping the order only to learn later it was not received (as most incidents of scamming get reported) eBay ordering you to refund.

Unfortunately, if you sell by auction, you'll need to get used to buyers not paying once in awhile.  There are a lot of irresponsible people out there who do not honor their bids.  I've found it is least painful for me as the seller to automate everything so I don't need to send any communication or manually do anything to open or close cases.  If you go to your "My Ebay" page, and select the "Account" tab and open the "Site Preferences" page, you can scroll down to "Unpaid Item Assistant."  There you can set it up to open the case automatically after two days of no payment, and close the case automatically after 4 more days if payment doesn't come.  That gives them a total of 6 days to pay,  so your item will potentially be tied up that long before you can safely relist for sale.  The buyer will get notifications of the need to pay without your doing anything.  You'll get notified when the case is closed, and that you either need to ship if the buyer paid, or you got your final value fee credited back and are free to relist the item for sale again.  It's frustrating when buyers don't pay, but at least with this in place I don't need to do anything, and the buyer is reminded to pay by Ebay, and not by me.  The other good thing about opening a case (either automatically or manually) is that the "buyer" who doesn't pay will get an unpaid item strike against his/her account.  I, like a lot of sellers, have my preferences set to refuse bids from people who have two or more unpaid item strikes on their account.  That weeds out some habitual non-payers that I do not want to do business with.

As others have said, it is very important to not offer the item for sale to someone else until the transaction with the original "buyer" is complete.  That is frustrating, because the back-up bidder is more likely to still want the item soon after auction end, but you don't wan't to risk ending up with two buyers and one item!

What reason are you using to cancel?   Cancellations aren't proper unless the buyer requests to cancel or you are willing to receive a defect for doing so.

I file and close the unpaid cases.  Many times the buyer will pay within this time frame.

Not paying is not personal and neither is opening and closing unpaid cases when you have not been paid.File cases and close 4 days later to get your fees creditted without getting yourself an account defect is just smart business.Plus if user gets to sellers who follow thru on unpaid item cases are doing all other sellers a mitzva as they will have buyers w 2 or more strikes for unpaid blocked

This is a user to user board not eBay employees.

Would you rather have a scam (mostly from buyers who need to be reminded of the need to pay for their purchase (s) perpetrated on you or getting a defect from whomever? When I buy things on eBay, I pay before the clock strikes at 12:00 nobody needs to remind me. misfitfun hit the nail on its head. Blocked buyers who don't pay on time or like babies needing to be spoonfed!

Unless ebay has changed it....if you use the "unpaid item dispute" and the buyer does not pay, the buyer looses the ability to leave the seller feedback once the dispute is closed. If you use the "cancel transaction" method you are going to have to misrepresent why you want to cancel the transaction to avoid a defect on your account and risk angering your buyer, especially if they still want the item. Ebay doesn`t block the ability of the buyer to leave feedback for cancelations. If it were me I`d just use the correct tool that ebay provides for the appropriate situation. Just food for thought.

So the main SNES lot I didn't open up the case yet because I was waiting for response. What reason would be best to use as cancel?

You do not have a valid reason to cancel. You should file the unpaid item claim.

You need to open cases and close them.  You get your fees back this way and the buyer gets a strike.

If you don't, you could end up with the first winner AND the second winner paying.  Then you are guaranteed bad feedback from one of them.

There are specific reasons to cancel; this isn't one of them.  Too many cancels and your selling privileges could be gone.

SO they messaged me and said "unforseen happened" do I just go ahead with the case and let ebay deal with it?

Yes.  Open the case if you haven't, or let the case run its course, if you have.  If the buyer doesn't pay in  4 days after the case is opened, you get your Final Value Fees back, and the buyer gets an unpaid item strike.  Then you are free to relist.  Yes, life happens and things go wrong sometimes and for whatever reason people can't/don't pay, but get your fees back.  This shouldn't be all your problem.
