I'd like to head off a situation if I can because I believe a recent buyer might try to make trouble. He is making complaints about the item. If he had just returned it, so be it. But now he has admitted to making changes to it. I'm not comfortable accepting a return on an item that he admits is no longer in the condition he received it, by his own hand. Is there anything I can do to circumvent him claiming the item was not as listed?

@riffmax wrote:Well, there is a new wrinkle and I think there won't be an issue. I just found out he has listed the item, asking more than 50% more than he paid for it. The listing claims it's the best example there is AND he's using my photos from the original listing. This is now the most interesting Ebay story I've ever heard!
I don't think I'm going to be hearing from him 🙂
You can report him for that part of it! Intellectual property violation.

What is a SNAD?
Anyway, he did put in the return. I got a very aggressive email from him saying that it needs to be repaired, so he's going to return it anyway. Meanwhile, he still has it listed as "the finest example there is" for more than half again as much as he paid for it. I'm on the phone right now with Ebay before responding to him. They have confirmed they see the correspondence as well as his listing of the same guitar using my photos.

It got escalated to eBay's High Claims department because of its' value. They confirmed that the item has definitely been modified. Submitted for closing the return request, which has to be approved by the "back office". I should get final notification of approval by Tuesday.

Return request officially denied and case was closed in my favor.
Final note - he now has the same item listed twice as 2 separate items.

Good For You! Sellers cannot continue to roll over in fear of defects or bad feedback when they are in the right. I took a virtual victory lap with you on this situation!!

I am just reading this thread for the first time now, but it is so nice to hear of a fair, positive outcome like this instead of the usual seller loss (when buyer was obviously in the wrong). Congrats to you on this well-deserved outcome!
