Buyer changes address after purchase

Yes, I know that one of the biggest scams is the buyer changing the address after the purchase. That happened to me this morning for the first time. My listing states that I would only send to the confirmed PayPal address and that is what happened this morning. The package is now at the PO. The customer keeps messaging me regarding the shipment. My big problem is that I now realize that you cannot call Ebay support on the phone. It really has me upset. Upset to the point that I am thinking of getting off the Ebay train after 22 years.

If the buyer is legit, I am looking at negative feedback. I guess my question is this: If I cancel the sale now and refund the customer...does that customer still have the ability to leave negative feedback? I realize that since the item is at the PO that I will loose the item ( to right, or wrong address ?? ), but I don't care about that. I just don't want the negative feedback. Realize I am a little upset & therefore may not make the most sense. Any help appreciated, but I am so so ticked off at not being able to get Ebay help when needed.

Cancel the sale.

No, when the sale is cancelled the buyer can't leave negative (or any) feedback.

Have the buyer correct the address and buy again.

From experience, about 50% of the time they will buy again and 50% of the time you'll never hear from them again.

Good luck!

You guys are really confusing me.  I thought the OP already shipped the item?  "The package is now at the PO. "

So the OP didn't ship it?

Re: Buyer changes address after purchase

According to the op, the package is at the post office so I don't think cancelling is the way to go.

If I was the seller, I would tell the buyer that a transaction can't be cancelled once the parcel has been mailed.

A buyer can leave feedback for a cancelled transaction unless they requested the cancellation in the first hour after purchase and before it was shipped.

You need to accept that not all negative feedback will negatively affect your reputation, and it's inevitable that someone is eventually going to leave you some. I had a scammer call me a disgusting liar in my feedback profile because I wouldn't let him steal from me a second time and cancelled the transaction. If you get negative FB because of the address situation, it's probably removable if you get the right agent.

In any event, your package is at the PO, it's too late to change it. If you end up recalling it (if it's worth enough money to recall), then at that point I'd cancel with problem with buyers address.

Best of luck. Come back here if you run into further trouble with the buyer so we can help you further.

The only confusion is with me.  I should really read these posts better before responding.   😉

No actually it isn't.  Buyers have the ability and need sometimes to set a different ship to address than appears on their account as their normal one.  They may be buying something to send to one of their kids or other family member.  I use to have to do it all the time to ship something directly to my Mom or my kid at college.  The ship to address on the payment is what you should always ship to otherwise you void your seller protection.  Ebay and PP do this because they know that buyers have the right to designate where the item is shipped to.

Just the other night as i was packing/shipping orders i came across the same person/username who placed 2 different orders.  I just assumed they did not use the checkout/shopping cart correctly like so many of my buyers.

I combined shipping and packed all the items together in 1 box and used 1 label. I was going to give the buyer a partial refund for combined shipping.

Then i realized even though it was the same buyer, each order had a different shipping address.  OOOOPS! It looks like one order was for the buyer and one order was for the buyer's relative.

Fortunately i caught this error in time to correct it.

Learn from my mistakes.
