Buyer bought wrong item, then filed Item Not As Described (they’re lying)

Buyer bought, paid for, and received my item .  They immediately opened an Item Not As Described.   My item description clearly mentioned that it was a 2002 auto repair manual ... it says “2002” in four different places on my listing ... and the photo clearly shows a 2002 manual.  They said they purchased a 2005 manual!  That’s their fault, not mine - my was clearly a 2002 manual.  They created their buyer account on the exact same day they purchased my item therefore their rating is obviously (0).  I do not accept returns.  How should I handle this without losing money?  It’s not my fault they can’t read.

Unfortunately there is no way that you are not going to loose money as I note that buyer has opened an item not as described case.

You have 3 options.

1: Accept the return , pay return postage and on receipt of your returned item issue a full refund to buyer and you get your final value fees back less $0.30.

2: Issue a full refund, case closes and buyer keeps the item (No return postage cost paid by you)  and you get your final value fees back less $0.30.

3: You do nothing and in a few days buyer escalates the case and eBay will close the case with a full refund to buyer without item being returned , debit your account and you don't get your final value fees back.

It doesn't matter that buyer is lying and you will find hundreds if not thousands of case same as yours on this forum and this kind of thing has happened to most if not all sellers at least once.

Only thing you can do is to report the buyer as abusive.

Because you do not accept returns, ebay will refund them and they get to keep the manual. Ebay policies supersede anything you put in the listings. You just made it easier for the buyer to keep your item instead of you sending a label to have them send it back. No returns does not mean no refund. Ebay hits that big red button on their desk anytime a buyer clicks on INAD.

You can try to reason with ebay through facebook or twitter. Sometimes you can get a sympathetic CSR to refund them without taking your funds.

Good luck

NO!  The seller has the opportunity to accept the return!

That's just spreading misinformation.

Please stop!

I would change my listings to accept 30 day returns. Buyer pays return shipping, If item is returned deduct the cost you paid to ship the item to them and send the balance to buyer. Then add that buyer to your blocked bidders list.  Go with the system not against it, things go much easier. Some buyers never read the listing, just the title, and some don't even read that correctly

Even if your listings state no returns the seller still has the option of getting their item back.  eBay does not automatically close a case and let the buyer keep the item.  That is misinformation.  A year ago eBay posted an update for sellers in managed payments that stated all sellers are required to accept returns.

That said once a buyer opens a case stating the Item is not as described sellers do have to accept the return, and issue the return shipping label unless you don't want it back.  However, once the item is received back,  and before you issue a refund you report the buyer for abusing eBay's MBG.  I've yet to determine whether eBay ever bounces a member for this type of behavior.

I understand Ebay Policies.  I was replying to their post by saying he just made it easier for the buyer to keep the item and money by not accepting returns. The way they posted it sounded like he wasn't budging. No misinformation meant to be given. If he had said he would if he had to, then I wouldn't have commented the way I did.

@iluvamtrak

If you want it returned before refunding, you need to accept the return and pay return shipping.

If you don't, Ebay could refund them from your account and let them keep it.

Have a great day.

It's sad but, a lie is as good as the truth when it comes to filing a case on eBay.  You can add a small amount to all your prices to cover such losses.  Stores do that to cover return fraud and shoplifting costs.

not returns do not mean NoREFUNDS.

So you refund, with out a return: if you chose to do so as per your listing ehhh.

Or follow some of the better advice, and get your item back if it is worth it.
