Buyer Using a Guest Account

I've sold on eBay for years and this is a new one for me. Should I have any concerns before shipping? It's 2 items that are valued at $1K+ so don't want to deal with anything could be a scam. Additionally, PayPal is recommending I ship both items together with multiorder shipping - sounds like that should be ok to ship both rather than individually. Here is the buyer's note when I asked about feedback:

Yes, I confirm that I have made the purchase for both items. I am a 100% legitimate ebay user and have always completed all honest past transactions. I sometimes experience trouble logging into ebay and so have chosen to purchase the above items as a guest. My regular ebay username is xxxx (removed for pirvacy reasons). I have paid all of my past ebay purchases quickly.

eBay shows the username almost the same as above, but ending in _ with random characters xxxx_754pwhrp. He also has no feedback + eBay shows joined yesterday.

Would be concerning to me, particularly the dollar amount.  Ouch.

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

You said he has another ebay account?  What does the feedback left for others look like?

Is it possible to checkout as a guest?

I wouldn't stress to much. 2 out of 4 of the highest items I've sold were from guest accounts. I was a little worried with it being a guest with 0 feedback, but they were both over $200+ and had no issues with either.

Hope this gives a little peace of mind! 🙂

There is no difference between what a "registered user" can do to you and what a "guest user" can do to you if they have a mind to...

This is as simple as it is - when you have the ok to ship, ship to the address on the paypal payment.

Researching buyers, looking up addresses, etc. is nothing but a waste of time and unnecessary drama.  They pay and you ship.

Many people have been scammed. The buyer pays via Paypal. Then claim the item never arrived and get their money back. Seller is out the item and the money because Ebay issues refund. Not rocket science, but clever scam. And what's the point of a member site if people can hop in and purchase with no account? Seller has to follow rules but buyer doesn't.

If a seller has tracking stating delivered, then no, the seller does not lose their money. Ebay may give a courtesy refund to the buyer, but they do not take the money away from the seller.

Have you not read the ebay or PayPal seller protection policies @flyingpig? It's not as easy as you seem to think. As long as the seller ships to the address on the buyers payment and has proof of delivery, the buyer loses the INR. It's not rocket science 😉

I am a 100% legitimate ebay user and have always completed all honest past transactions.

There are two kinds of people I mistrust:

  • Those who assure me they are honest -- an honest man doesn't need to tell me.
  • Those who tell me they are Christians or who quote scripture at me. -- Matthew 6:3.

My eBay buddy who sells hijabs has the same problems with professing members of her faith. If you talk about it, you're not a holy as you say.

That being said, the usual precautions.

The money is in your PP account. PP has told you to ship and the email addy is legit. Tracking and Signature Confirmation.

Hmm-- That both IDs are new is another Red Flag. Actually a whole May Day parade of red flags here.
