Buyer Refusing to Pay - Has Purchased Same Item Multiple Times

I have a listing for a set of DvD's that sold back on 8/14/2021. The buyer did not pay for the items and after sending them a reminder, an invoice, and waiting the requisite amount of time, I cancelled the order for non-payment and relisted the item. This same set of DvD's has sold again on 11/6/2021 and the buyer has not paid. I sent an invoice to them as a reminder to please pay when I noticed something that looked strange to me. After double checking the last sale of this item, I realized the buyer is the same. I immediately went to their account to see if they were new ect. They have 4000 ratings and a ton of stuff for sale; the best I can tell is they are resellers. I have no problem with resellers, but I do have a problem with people who don't pay for their items.

Ebay removed the ability for seller's to leave negative feedback (and after becoming a seller and having issues with buyers, I HATE that they did that) but I went to the buyer's feedback anyway. Lo and behold, some sellers have left "positive" feedback with a negative review. I know it's technically against the rules but I'm glad to see it's not just me having an issue with this person.

At this point I have messaged the buyer and asked them to complete their transaction or it will be cancelled, again, for non-payment. I asked that they not waste my time with bids they don't plan on following through with. If this person does not pay I plan to add them to the "blocked buyers list" but can I file a complaint or something with eBay? Frankly I think this person is wasting my time on purpose and it's unfair to every other seller they have done this too.

Thanks for your help!

Once the time has passed … cancel for nonpayment. This gives the buyer an unpaid item.

Add this “buyer” to you BBL. you should have done this the 1st time.

There is no need to keep sending payment requests. eBay sends plenty. Also sending messages telling them to pay or you will cancel could have a bad outcome. What it they pay and you ship and then they file a Not As Described case.

Then you are out more than time.

Just cancel for nonpayment as soon as you can and add them to the BBL

You can report the buyer under the action's column.

Re: Buyer Refusing to Pay - Has Purchased Same Item Multiple Times

Reporting the buyer to eBay is done by cancelling for non-payment. If all those sellers who left the negs under the positive guise would have done so, this guy wouldn't have been able to bid/buy from sellers with their blocks set to block buyers with non-payment strikes.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: Buyer Refusing to Pay - Has Purchased Same Item Multiple Times

I plan on adding them to the "blocked buyers list" but had no idea that was a thing until I started googling to figure out what options I had. I don't really sell a whole lot on ebay, just to offload collectibles, DvD's ect that I not longer need or want.

Didn't know if there was anything else that could be done, worth a shot. Thanks for the feedback.

If the same buyer tried to buy from you more than once and hasn't paid, that is your fault. You should have blocked them the first time.

Re: Buyer Refusing to Pay - Has Purchased Same Item Multiple Times

The first time someone purchases from me but does not pay, they immediately  go onto my BBL. That way I don't have to deal with them again unless they use a different ID. Yours used the same ID. You should have blocked them after they pulled the first stunt, and been on the lookout for them using a different ID.

Regarding the buyer with their "bad" positive feedback history, welcome to eBay's sloppiness and uncaring attitude about tilting the playing field heavily in favor of buyers and, by default, scammers.

Cheers, Duffy

If someone sells infrequently, and with few issues, they may not be aware of the BBL.  It may be their misstep, but it's also part of the learning process all sellers go thru, some just faster than other (by necessity).

When you add an ID to your BBL, you also stop that buyer from using an alternate ID (but the same address and/or name) to buy from you.  If they do, and you catch it, you can report it to eBay (BEFORE shipping) and they will cancel the order with no impact to your account and deal with the buyer.

I've had this happen a handful of times in the 24 years I've been selling here.  It's one of the few Seller Protections that actual seems to work exactly as intended.  Heaven help us all if they ever decide to change it!!  🙂

You can set up buyer blocks so people with more than 2 unpaid item strikes in the last year can't bid on your listings.

You can sell in a fixed price format with immediate payment required instead of using the auction format.

Re: Buyer Refusing to Pay - Has Purchased Same Item Multiple Times

Won't argue with your theory that eBay is biased in favor of buyers.

BUT, as you mentioned, buyers can be added to a seller's BBL.

And we should also point out that a buyer who receives a positive FB with negative wording can report that FB.  The wording will be removed and the positive mark will stand, but, more importantly, the seller who left that FB will have a defect on his record.
