Buyer Fraud - No Returns yet Wants Return

I am really starting to get tired of these buy and try buyers on eBay. In 17 years I never had a problem until recent memory. Twice in the last year now. I sold an item recently which stated No Returns. I put many photographs, wrote a description noting the "wear and tear" on the item bc of its age, and in this particular case, had a back and forth with the buyer in private messages for days before the sale. I also sent them many additional photos. The buyer made me feel a little uneasy that he may have been a "buy and try" kind of guy, then abuse the eBay buyer protection policy, but in any event, I shipped it out for the $20 it costs to do so (buyer paid)

Buyer receives item and suddenly EVERYTHING is wrong with it and "not as described". They are noting this and that, all clearly exaggeration and all of it covered in my description and my private messages anyway. The return request was open and I messaged them saying I am not accepting returns. I have been on Ebay for 17 years with 100% positive feedback. So what's going to happen here? I am going to get screwed out of paying $20 return shipping for this clown once this gets "escalated"?

Yes I am currently seeing that PayPal has not refunded the fee they took from me. So am I out THAT as well?

Yes. PayPal sends out a periodic update of changes to their service; they warned about this almost a year ago.

There was quite a backlash and they actually postponed it for a while - but as with war and politics, the initial outrage dies down and people eventually resign themselves to the inevitable and fall in line.

Or they move to Canada, where the politics and PayPal are pretty much the same, but at least the chance of war is lower.

Lol so I've lost not just the $20 return shipping, but $13 from paypal. What's next, eBay still makes me pay my % of the sale anyway?

I know how the policies work but just didn't think it went this far, where I was basically treated as a nobody in all of this while dealing with a buyer who was just blatantly lying. They did not even force the buyer to send photos for proof! And how am I supposed to suddenly relist the item without it having an asterisk next to it? The item had 10 watchers and over 500 views before it was sold. This also damages the items reputation as potential buyers will wonder what happened as it was showed as sold previously.

Not trying to harp on this, but clearly you did not know how policies work.

After days of not taking the action required by eBay, you did learn.

Now you do, and you will learn from this experience.

Re: Buyer Fraud - No Returns yet Wants Return

The downside of being a seller with a long history of everything going really well is that you are apt to handle a SNAD complaint poorly.   This often reveals that the seller hasn't been paying enough attention to notifications of changes in ebay and Paypal policies.  I recommend that you remedy this so that you aren't caught so short next time.

The only possible appeal you will be able to make that has any chance of success (AFTER the current case has closed with the item back in your hands and the buyer refunded) is if you show a 1-to-1 correspondence between every single fault that the buyer found with the item in the Return case and the description in your listing and the ON EBAY communication between you and the buyer.

Your best hope is if every single problem the buyer identified was already described by you in the listing.  A fainter hope is if some of the problems the buyer identified were described by you in ON EBAY communication, but 100% of the buyer's complaints are fully covered in both.

Anything not in either place that the buyer complained about in the Return case, and your faint hope drops to zero.  And anything in off-eBay correspondence is useless to you for appeal purposes.

The only place that you really stand a good chance of winning an appeal on a SNAD is if every single fault that the buyer found was documented in your listing AND there was no contradictory condition information in your title, description and Item Specifics.

Re: Buyer Fraud - No Returns yet Wants Return

I also have a no return policy in my listings, but have always accepted returns.  However, I rarely list items that cost $20 to ship.

This buyer should have raised red flags with all his questions before purchase.

Re: Buyer Fraud - No Returns yet Wants Return

@eleanor*rigby   But, sadly, I also think those buyers won't want to pay return shipping ever, no matter how long they have to return it

I average 1200 sales a year since 2011, and have maybe 10 returns a year. Not 1 has NOT PAID Their own shipping. Not One.

I offer 30 day returns. My items are all built to order, so when someone buys, I work. When they return it, I have to find a home for it, as I don't have room to stock 400+ different types of items (x10 if I were 'stocking) so when I get a return, I have a valid reason to be upset, but I still allow the return and do not transfer that 'upset' to the customer. I've had 2 returns the past 30 days because people said they 'sold the car'. Who buys show car covers for a car they are selling?

@corvettestainless

Oh! Good thing I didn't say ALL buyers, then. I said THOSE buyers, and, in context, the discussion was about buyers of the ilk which the OP described. Other posts in this thread say things like "buyers like this" or "a numpty buyer" or "a buyer who was just blatantly lying." NONE of us was referring to ALL buyers or YOUR buyers.

I stand by my statement. Smiley Frustrated

Re: Buyer Fraud - No Returns yet Wants Return

Item received back today. No issues with it at all, of course. Immediately called eBay to appeal and offered to send photos to prove the buyers fraud. I was told they will "report" the buyer and they can ensure the buyer won't be able to buy items from me again. Ya, ok. I then asked to be credited for the $20 I had to pay for this crook to return the item. eBay said no to this.

Then, I fell into shock when I was ALSO told that eBay is still going to charge me the final value fee for the item!?!?!?!?!?   I asked to speak to a supervisor immediately. Supervisor told me same thing.

SO LET'S RECAP:

-I lost $10 paypal fee

-I lost $20 for the return shipping

-And I STILL have to pay my $30 final value fee!!!!!!

"IS THIS A JOKE?" I asked. They replied no.

I honestly don't think I've ever been more disgusted in my life.

So if someone sells an item for $1000, even if its returned for **bleep** reasons the seller still has to pay $100???

Am I missing something????
