I offer volume discounts on many of my listings but am curious about the use of discount coupons.
When listing an item using a promotional discount such as a hypothetical Buy 1 Get 1 For $1 - or offering a coupon with the same deal - what rules do you apply to the use of the coupon? In the listing description area regarding returns do you spell out how returns are handled and rules regarding the return of just one or both items purchased together? Do you have set rules or will you handle any return when and if it happens according to the individual situation?
The discount is automatically applied by eBay at checkout right? And is clearly visible on the buyer invoice right?
Do you state the promo in the listing title? (i.e. ladies pink sneakers buy one pair get the second pair for $1).
Can you use one coupon promotion to cover all items listed in a certain category? Such as Buy 1 Kitchen Utensil Get 1 For $1?
Has anyone gotten really creative in the use of promotional coupons? Did they create buyer confusion?
Buyer wants to purchase 3. With Buy 1 Get 1 For $1 the buyer pays full price for the first item, a $1 for the second item, then pays what for the 3rd item? Full price again? How does eBay handle the price for the 3rd item at checkout?
(I know sellers can manually send a partial refund if they wish but I'd like to know how eBay handles the pricing at checkout. I assume if a buyer purchases 4 of the item 2 would be at full price and 2 would be for $1 each).
Could the buyer then open a return case, return 1 item for a full price refund and keep the identical item they paid $1 for? Or is the buyer required to return both items for a refund of the total amount paid for both? Or can the seller refund half of the total price paid for both items if buyer returns just one?
Sorry if any of these questions have been answered in other threads. I tried searching through some of them - and thanks to those who posted in them - but I am really hoping to hear from those who have used promotional coupons recently and are willing to share their experience.
