Bonanza does something better than ebay...

On Bonanza if I can't find something I can put it on reserve to hide it from the public. On ebay I have to end the listing. I think Bonanza has it right.

Ok. I must be doing it wrong. Every time I end a listing and start fresh ( not relist) I get a new listing number and all the watchers are gone. It's no big deal. We all figure things out.

That's how it's supposed to work. If you just relist the items, you keep the watchers.

ETA: I was on Bonanza twice, and because I'm on Team Knucklehead, I stuck there for two years despite selling nothing AND purchasing several of their turbopacks. The second time I didn't bother with the turbopacks, because all I could see is it just turbocleans your wallet.

It used to work years ago (the only reason I kept at it, but obviously it didn't work very well for me), then apparently the CEO got an infusion of capital to boost advertisement and the money seemed to disappear.

eCrater is another old dusty, musty place, but at least some people have said it works OK for them.

Ebay has it but you have to spend about $4.95 minimum a month to access it.

Mercari you can deactivate something - that hides it, then reactivate it. Also on Etsy (I think, still - it has been a while since I've sold there).

Just set your quantity to "0".

You keep the same item number.

You keep the same watchers.

....

No, you don't. If a seller ends a fixed price listing and then relists it, the entry on potential buyers' Watch lists has a big button that says, "View relisted item" and the relist has a new listing number. Then buyers can go to that new listing and put it on their Watch list.  The new listing is NOT automatically on their Watch lists.  (Likewise, an unpaid  auction that's relisted will get a new listing number.)

That's why the "Out of Stock" option is better for the OP's intentions rather than ending and relisting.

Yes, ending a listing and relisting WILL get you a new listing number.

To replicate the Bonanza option, you need to use eBay's site preferences option known as "Out of Stock" (OOS).  This option hides fixed price listings when their "Quantity available" goes to zero, then reactivates the listing when the seller revises the quantity, so the listing is the same listing with the same listing number, same quantity Sold, same Watchers, etc.

While an item is on OOS status, the big blue button on the Watch list will say "View similar items" just as it would for a sold-out listing.

The OOS option was intended to help out sellers who run out of an item that they expect to restock (hence the name) but can also be used to temporarily hide a listing for an item with a quantity of one. More details on this Help page:
