Bogus Return

I sold this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/275358207142

Buyer is now sending it back stating:

Comments from buyer:
"Was not disclosed that item was covered in thick adhesive"

===>  Unless the mailman covered it in adhesive, it wasn't covered when I sent it out.

Here are the buyer's pictures in the return...  Certainly looks stikey now.  Heck, it has white sects, looks like someone took sandpaper to it, and look at the logo.  Any ideas if this is even the same unit?

Q: Does THIS look anything like the description I posted?

Re: Bogus Return

So they're sending it back? Why are you allowing that? Point out the obvious that clearly the markings on the bottom in the photo they sent are worn off where yours were not. Ask them if they mistakenly sent photos of their old non-working one. Start there and give them an out, but let them know you will verify markings on the returned item and proceed accordingly if the exact item you sent is not received back in the same condition.

Those images do not look like the stock photos in your listing, no.

Re: Bogus Return

The trouble is ebay doesn't know who is telling the truth and who is not.

Just because you have pictures of the "nice" one on your listing does not mean that's the one you sent.

Because of that ebay will always almost side in favor of the buyer.

Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

If the buyer files a NAD (not as described) case you will have 2 options...

Refund and let the buyer keep the item.

Accept the return. Pay for return postage. Refund when you get the item back.

Of course you never know what you're going to get back.

If you "fight it" and don't refund or accept the return,

there is a good chance that ebay will refund them with your funds and not require them to return the item.

This will also get you a "strike" on your record.

Good luck to you.

Re: Bogus Return

You should take them to small claims court. Only there can you show the photos and get your money back. Now due to covid courts are handling cases via Zoom so buyer has no excuse to not be there. You have all their info required to file a case. Most likely just filing the paperwork will scare them and get them to give you back the money.

The problem is that eBay's return system is all automated. No one will look at any of your photos and buyers have a money back guarantee. It seems obvious that the buyer is shipping you back their old used unit. Use your other routes to get your money back and teach them a lesson on cheating. For this amount it is worth the trouble. Best of luck to you....

The OP didn't have stock photos in his listing. What you may be seeing is eBay's misdirection guiding you to a live listing from someone else, since the link you're trying to follow is for a sold item.

To work around that, follow the link to the OP's current listings instead, then select the Sold checkbox on the left side of the listings page, and his sold item is at the top.

Photo 3 of the OP's listing shows the Serial Number on the bottom of the case. If that were mine, I would tell the buyer that we'll be happy to refund as soon as the return is received and the serial number is verified to be that of the listing. That's not really going to block a refund if the buyer does return it, but might persuade a newbie scammer to drop the attempt or go somewhere else.

eBay has offered some recourse if a buyer returns an item that can be documented as not in original condition (such as a parts swap), but I have no first-hand experience trying to deal with that, so I don't know how helpful they might be.

Re: Bogus Return

For those wanting to see the OP's original listing, the original item link will not take you there. Try this link instead, which should take you to the OP's Sold Items list, where the item in question is first on the list: https://www.ebay.com/sch/netwizz760/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_from&_ipg&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_t...

Re: Bogus Return

Thanks for the link, looks true to the buyers image. Look like vinyl cling to me. Was there vinyl cling on the item? Perhaps, tell them that they need to peel it off?

This seems like a big misunderstanding to me.

Re: Bogus Return

"buyer has no excuse to not be there" Buyer is a no show, seller wins. It has nothing to do with zoom or covid.

Re: Bogus Return

Always take a picture of the serial. When you lose the case make sire you call ebay and actually speak to someone. You might get your money back.
