Blackouts confirmed by Ebay customer service

So my item that I listed last week, that showed up in a 3 word serach last week, is not showing up today.  I called customer service and she had no explanation for why it was not showing up.  I played dumb and asked if I could be on a rolling blackout and she said that must be it because there was no other explanation.   Maybe I missed the memo, but as far as I knew, Ebay would never admit to the rolling blackouts.  So we are paying our fees for our items to be seen for the entirety of their listing period and now there is the admission that the rolling blackouts exist and who knows how many days our items are visible.  With as much money Ebay makes off sellers, this should not be happening.  Disgusting.

You probably spoke with someone who has as much a clue about ebay as do many of the CS employed there.

I would not consider what she told you as fact.

What item are you looking for?

You can't take a single statement by a CS representative as proof of anything. Do you really think that if eBay was doing anything like that CS would even know? I don't. CS agents are overworked, underpaid and under educated in their job. It's not like they are sitting in board meetings or anything.  Most people here know more about eBay than they do---including eBay policy.

Is the item showing up at all? With the entire title?

When a 3 word search doesn't bring up an item always check the category and make sure that ebay isn't just limiting the results that way. Many items are thought to be missing and it is a category issue.

If you still can't find it no matter what you do, after trying the item listing number too, I would end the listing and relist.

I have seen listings completely unsearchable.

Well,  we all know and have known for years that the blackouts exist.   You think they don't know?  Of course they know.

I wouldn't trust CS to know anything about ebay.

You can't even take the best 7 out of 10 statements as proof of anything from them.

No I don't think they know anything like that. They are trained to take your call make you feel better and get you off the phone. They are likely not even interested in the inner workings of eBay and are just like most workers looking forward to Friday and dreading Monday. Why don't you give us the full title and we will see if we can find it.

Agree that this is not something CS would know about.......

Posting the item #/title might get you some help here.....

Perhaps they thought that "Rolling Blackout" referred to you losing power, which would prevent you from seeing your listing since your computer would not work without power.

So you’ll take the comment from a poorly trained, dollar-an-hour CSR in Southeast Asia, who doesn’t know jack about how eBay works, because it fits what you want to believe.

Have fun with that.

We have friends whose native tongue is Italian. They do a certain amount of smiling and nodding when speaking to us, just as we do a certain amount of smiling and nodding when we can't figure out what the heck is being said. I'd figure the CS was doing the telephone version of smiling and nodding.

“Blackouts” do not exist. Per eBay there are times when bandwidth is exceeded & all items may not be shown at all times. There’s a block telling me that my items may not be shown at all times every time I list. Ok, I e had my sleeping pill. I’m leaving for the night before I say anything else that makes no sense.
Good night good people!

It's interesting reading about people's interations with customer support.

When CS suggests that something is the seller's fault, CS gets dismissed as being unreliable, incompetent and worthless.

But when they say something the seller wants to believe, suddenly every word is treated as gospel.

Even if there were rolling blackouts, I sincerely doubt that the rent-a-bodies who answer eBay phones would be given that information.

Ebay has stated that "your items may not be seen all the time", or something to that wording.  I've been on here many years and can say it happens all the time.  Everything just goes sort of "dead".

I don't feel it is fair since we are paying for each listing, but we should all know by now that there is no arguing with Ebay.  It just is what it is, take it or leave it.  And you hope your items get back in the loop quickly.  I have been off for as long as a week.  Drives ya crazy!!  Unless someone is "watching" an item, - they can always buy that.  Sometimes I have an item I am "watching" and when I pull up the category it is no where to be found, but....  I still have it on watch and can buy it.
