I know some will use information to undercut, but my items are mostly collectibles so I know that no matter what, its mostly waiting for the right buyer to come along anyways.
That being said, wanted to get a temp for what the average sale is looking like this holiday season. How much percent off are you running a sale for? When are you starting your sale'(s)? And how long are you running your them for? Just looking to stay in the average with yall.
Cheers to all who participate, and wishing yall the very best this season. It may not be the best of times, but we usually can make a few extra sales this time of year, and I hope we all make a few good ones.

I don't change my pricing strategies at all for the holidays. I post cheapest on ebay for the same condition, and then I relist the item 10 percent lower every 3 months until it sells. I don't think trying to have loss leaders or Black Friday Sales works with an ebay business where it can be nearly impossible to get a customer to purchase a second item no matter what kind of promotion you have going. I'll run buy 1 get 1 free sales and over half my customers won't pick a second item. I used to advertise no extra shipping cost on extra items purchased in the same transaction and I still would only sell 1 item to 95 percent of people, and half the ones who did buy more than one would do separate transactions not even back to back because they were just going nuts in that category and not even shopping from me specifically.

Same as every year? Or recently come to the conclusion that the sales don’t work?

I definitely hear ya. All the gimmicks are pretty silly. But even pricing low hasn’t always been the best route. I once did an experiment where I took 100 items in my store and changed them all to auctions starting at 99 cents. Huuuuuge mistake. I lost so many items that didn’t go for what nearly they were worth. So now I know that there should be a balance of holding the line, but also everyone expects a sale at this time of year, so I figure a small discount just to be a part of the baseline won’t hurt.

HI!
Here I am my lowest, shipping kills me. Other venues I sell on I listed almost all my items super low & they are selling like Hot Cakes. FB also I am doing great on also.😊🦃

Yeah, the shipping *and the final value fees are pretty crazy. Just realized I was paying 14% in fees for an ornament the other day.
Back in the day it was under 10% and with top rated 20% off final value fees it was a lot more doable.
But, it is what it is I guess.

I haven't decided. Was originally planning on running a sale probably from Wed night through Monday, but I'm thinking of skipping it. Maybe do a flash sale for Small Business Saturday, along with sending out coupons to my "followers" or past buyers, so they can apply the coupon to the markdown....but I might just stick with sending out the occasional offer and let it go at that.

Yeah I’m thinking I’ll at least run the sale through Monday as well. My previous experience with specials is there’s a bump in sales for like a day out two, then it fizzles out. But, still think it’s worth it, as some people need a reason to justify the purchase so it’s happy compromise.

I am not discounting or running any type of sale As a matter of fact I shut down the week after Thanksgiving and do not start selling again until sometime after the first of the year. I enjoy the family time.

0.0% cant afford to run sales. With all he fee's we pay and shipping? NO

Agree with the importance of that family time 👍. Not going home this year, otherwise I’d be doing the same exact thing.

Hey yall, came across this old thread because of researching. So I've never done the holidays on ebay before but I am running a major sale. My thinking is that the general idea in retail for the black Friday sales is basically replacing profit % with higher % in sales so as to work out to their benefit? Does this work on ebay? Have any of you ever tried doing a black Friday sale competitive to retail? Thanks

I've run seasonal sales before, when I was full time, but I won't offer anything less than 20% off, so I tend to pick and choose how I price things. I sell pre-owned clothing and found it worked OK.
Now I just send offers on things people have 'liked' if I need to move them along - again, roughly 20% off.
