Got a stumper for any sleuths who want to take a crack! I just got a notification that a buyer filed a return, and it's a doozie, total multi-layer cake. Right away you'll notice there are red flags reminiscent of a 'face mask' or 'zip code' type scam, but HOLD. -If you keep looking, that doesn't add up. In fact in some ways it more resembles an INR scam. But in one major way, it doesn't seem a likely scam at all. I mean, if you're gonna commit ANY kind of mail fraud, I wouldn't think it'd be worth it for a $33 item.
Okay, so yes it is new account with what I ASSUMED was a freight forwarder address.
Here's the return reason and photo. Ridiculous closeup, but I know, that doesn't matter.
Now here's where the weird comes in. -According to tracking, this package hasn't even been delivered yet. Says they tried Saturday but the business was closed. I have seen that happen tons of times with freight forwarders, and then the package just gets delivered the following Monday. But it's the middle of the night between Sunday and Monday right now, so ........
Also look at the scans. -How was it out for delivery at 6:10 AM if it didn't even arrive at the post office until over 5 hours later???
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
The buyer's address is ..... not an address. It's woods on a highway. There are (allegedly) some other nearby businesses, but they are also supposedly in those woods, and there's no building structures shown in 'map view', nor is there a driveway, as in, no way to drive ..... into these woods, to go to these businesses. And I certainly don't see anything resembling the industrial park building like what most F.F.'s look like.
So, I can't even guess what that turquoise blue evidence photo is 'of' because I don't see how they could have these earrings in their possession to photograph. And yup, I checked my listing photos to see if they just cropped one of those .... but nope, none of my photos have that framed windowpane light reflection.

I looked on Apple Maps for the address and this is what appeared. Just to give you something to compare.
I've seen addresses both on Google and Apple that were indicated with a red marker across the street from the actual address.
Now, go to Google maps and do a search for the property next door (2437), then do Street view.
THAT home appears to be inside the development on the other side of the road. (Not showing pic to protect privacy.). A close look at the garage doors suggest that these homes are not numbered correctly.
Finally, I searched an open source database and there is no home listed at a 2436. The addresses jump from 2431 to 2437 with nothing listed in between.

A return request when an Item has not been delivered and an INAD at that is mighty suspicious. The picture is also suspect I cannot even make out what the heck that is in that picture.

30 something dollars is not a lot to scam about but a buyer making numerous 30 dollar purchases adding up to 1 grand is.

May I ask something? Is there a reason your replies include the full quote of the person you're replying to, even if you're replying right below them? I'm just wondering if your account is set up to do that automatically somehow, or if ...... ????

Hey! At least what you found shows that those woods have undergone some development beyond what google results showed me! And who knows, maybe 2436 is a real address but just not yet registered even in the more up-to-date source you looked at.
But even if the address is legit ..... it wouldn't explain why USPS says it isn't delivered yet.

Just realized that my photo shows construction for an industrial park.
Your pic shows the addresses of the park, but the overhead image predates the construction.
I wonder if the maps and images available online simply do not correspond to what is currently on the ground?
(PS: Default forum behavior is to quote the other person's entire message when you hit the "quotation marks" icon in the toolbar that displays when you want to compose a reply.)

Yes it's a FF.
Seems like they deal with China. Few websites in Chinese that list that address as "address1".
The usps tracking you are over thinking.
May just never got an initial local PO scan and directly out for delivery and the scan you saw was when it showed up after delivery attempt.
08-12-2024 04:01 AM
If it's a freight forwarding service chances are the buyer does not use English as their first language. Could be the bug red dot with Delivery Attempt was understood to mean it's not ever being delivered.
I would communicate with the buyer and give it time, specifically "they tried Saturday but the business was closed. I have seen that happen tons of times with freight forwarders, and then the package just gets delivered the following Monday."

@toysaver and @robbie31415 Okay but this is not an Item Not Received case. It is a RETURN, like they allegedly have the earrings and want to return them. -But HOW could they have them, if the delivery attempt failed Saturday, mail doesn't run on Sunday, and even if it did (I know the make a few exceptions) -it still doesn't have a Delivered scan.
So how could the buyer have it?
By the way, never mind the fact that if this is a FF address, then the buyer actually lives overseas, probably China, they certainly don't have the earrings THERE.
08-12-2024 04:21 AM
I'm going to ask the buyer when the package was delivered. I'll be surprised if they answer but I have nothing to lose by trying.
08-12-2024 04:22 AM
Just a nervous buyer who doesn't understand.
08-12-2024 04:27 AM
Huh??? Doesn't understand what?
08-12-2024 04:28 AM
I don't think they have it.
I think a delivery scan will happen on Monday.
Don't over think the tracking.
Buyer could be trying to get some cheap item for free.
Right now it's assumption. I would not give a return label. Wait a few days and do it last minute.
Then send a label and see what happens. If they just didn't understand they will do nothing and the label will time out. If they send some random item then you know you for scammed.
08-12-2024 04:32 AM
They already got the return label automatically.
