Best way to handle Cancellations/non-payers to avoid defects?

This hasn't happened to me yet but trying to figure it out,When buyers don't pay and I cancel transaction can i get defect?
If so then I need to ask them to ask me to cancel right? If they don't respond do an unpaid item case?
is this the only way to safely handle this kinda thing is that my read on this, anyone know?I hate doing unpaid item cases it's such a waste of time with what i sell,i look at it as avoiding a problem, when done in the past it was beating a dead horse.

i know fees are now being charged in relation to this so i'm try to get ahead of it.

If a buyer does not pay, open an Unpaid Item Case and close it four days later with no payment.  You do not earn a defect, you get your FVF credited, and you relist.

Buyers can not cancel a transaction, only you can.  If they request on an eBay message to "Cancel", then you can cancel per buyer's request and not earn a defect.

I think you should just do the unpaid item claim.

What fees?  The final value fee goes onto your account at the time the item is Sold.

they raise fees from %10 to %14 on all your listings in that cat. if you have to many defects, defects can be accessed if a buyer doesn't pay then you cancel transaction (when it becomes obvious they aren't going to pay) i guess they ask buyer did they ask to cancel and if they say no they give you a defect i'm not sure,i think your right if the buyer doesn't send me a cancel request the only way to avoid is a non pay case.

There are no fees if your buyer doesn't pay when you close a UPI...listen not opening UPIs lets your bad buyer go on and do this to me and everyone else. I don't want the bad buyers you let off the hook because you were lazy and you shouldn't get mine. So do your part.

If you are worrying about buyers not paying, then use fixed price listings with "Immediate Payment Required".  It's a simple solution.

OTOH if you do run auctions and they don't pay, that's simple too:

  1. 48 hours after auction end, you file the Unpaid Item (UPI) reminder.
  2. 96 hours later with no payment, you close it.
  3. Block that username.

That serves several purposes:

  • You get your fees refunded
  • Buyer earns a UPI strike.
  • There is a tool to use in Preferences where you can block deadbeats who have earned as few as 2 UPI strikes in the past 12 months.

So following through with a UPI helps everyone who uses that tool and it hits the bad shopper with logical consequences.

Open the UPI, if they don't pay, buyer gets a strike and you get your fees back.

Don't be racking up cancellations, that can hurt you.
