Below standard/defect question…

Long story short,

Ive recently started selling in ebay (Dec 2024). Made two mistakes…I had two orders which the Addresses provided in the orders I was unable to send too. So I messaged the both buyers their address was an issue, informed them, both did not respond. So I contacted ebay they said cancel the orders. Unfortunately i did not know it mattered the reason and just chose out of stock (i know).

Reason I cancelled:

The address listed for both was a parcel locker which I hadn't heard of ( its like a 24/7 parcel pick up only for parcels, not letters). Went onto the postal website and it said my letter could not be shipped there and may not be received ( as my items were letters, they only accepted parcels). Spoke to Ebay they said if they don't respond, to cancel the order. These are domestic sales not international.

fast forward to now I am below standard seller (says next evaluation i would be rated as above standard), i tried appealing but Ebay denied, after a phone call they agreed to review it.

Is it the case of I wait for the next review and I'm back to normal…. Or is my account stuffed for 12 months. Went from 5 sales a day to 0 this week. Barely any impressions or views… or do I fight this? I have proof in the conversation with the buyers. I have a 100% rating, I have learnt from my mistakes just a bit annoyed at myself!

What was the reason that you were unable to ship to those buyers.  Can't check any current listings to see what your shipping limitations are because, of course, you have none.

You probably should review eBay rules for sellers.  If you didn't know that you could have used "buyer requested" as a reason for cancellation, you may have missed other valuable information as well.

I hope you can get this worked out.

"Made two mistakes…"

"had two orders which the Addresses provided in the orders I was unable to send too."

Why were you unable to send to their addresses? If you didn't set your buyer restrictions correctly, you should have followed through on the shipments and corrected your settings.

"i did not know it mattered the reason and just chose out of stock (i know)."

In this case, you chose the correct reason for the cancellation. You CANNOT lie about the reason in order to avoid a defect.

"I have proof in the conversation with the buyers."

That you told your buyers why you didn't ship is irrelevant as far as ebay is concerned. You're expected to follow through on sales and if you don't do so, you have to deal with the consequences.

You have to keep plugging along, proving yourself to be a good seller who follows through on obligations. It'll take a while but you can bring yourself back up.

You posted this on the U.S. eBay Community board.  Sometimes a question is 'global' enough that we could help, but your issue seems too nation-specific for us.

Here is your Community.  Good luck!

Am I understanding this correctly:  You spoke to eBay (how, exactly?) and eBay told you to cancel the order? And then eBay gave you a defect for cancelling?  What are we missing here?

If you only ship within Australia, does that mean that both of these addresses were NOT in Australia?

If so,  that should have been your reason for cancellation and you wouldn't have needed to contact eBay (although still not sure that's who you contacted).
