Being ripped off by a buyer

After many years with E-Bay with 100% positive feedback they have allowed a buyer to fraudulently make a claim not only to rip me off but has dropped my perfect rating. Do I give up on this site? I've paid them 13% give or take for years and this is how they take care of the people that pay them by letting a scammer with 7 feedbacks get away with this theft. What is wrong with E-Bay. It's hard to understand their judgement any more and I am seriously looking to a different alternative for a place that protects the seller instead of these rip offs they seem to protect.

I'm assuming since you said theft you didn't get the coin back?  Can you give us a little more detail?? It definitely sucks and I know you are upset but that false positive you gave the buyer could cost you more than that neg did. Did you try/able to get it removed??

@konamika   Don't let the neg discourage you - just about everyone gets one sooner or later.  As asked above, did you get your merchandise back?  If the buyer filed for a SNAD and you refused the return, you're going to lose the merchandise and the money.  What exactly happened?

This person is claiming I sent him a graded USA penny(worth $20) instead of a 1906 Norway 2 krone coin i sent him. Beside the difference between the two coins which is obvious E-Bay immediately  takes his side as a buyer. This was for a $70 item. Makes me paranoid to trust E-Bay with a coin that's worth $3000 if someone else wants to switch that out for whatever reason. I feel after years of providing a good customer base E-Bay is failing me. Was my feedback to this person overreacting? Absolutely but there was nothing false about it.

@konamika

Double-whammy: when the buyer has that feedback removed. Negative comments with a green donut are a no-no.

eBay has no Idea what you sent: or what they received. Hey you just might have made a mistake...

They don't care buy the way.

If the buyer opens an item not as described case: you get two choices;

return for refund.

or let em keep it and refund.

You agree to the money back guarantee by selling on eBay.

If you feel you have been a victim of fraud or theft file such with law enforcement. eBay is not law enforcement.

I feel  bad for you as we have all had to deal with buyers like this and we all have received a neg and that stinks especially when you are in the right.  Ebay has a very serious issue with returns, Scams and theft. It is happening more often now because these scammers know they can get away with it. This is the reason I would never sell anything of great value on ebay. It used to not be this way.

eBay can't determine who is telling the truth.

Buyers can lie and there's nothing you can do about it.

Sellers aren't allowed to leave a negative comment for the buyer.  The bad thing is you said he was a thief which is useless to warn others because the buyer's id is masked. Nobody will be able to know who the buyer was. So the feedback is pretty much useless if only you can see their user id.

So you are willing to have one negative feedback to cause you to stop selling on Ebay?  Is that really the right decision for you?  Are you willing to give up the money you have made on this site because of one buyer?

I understand that you are frustrated by what they did.  That I get and I understand.  While I don't have a negative, I got a couple neutrals recently and my account was also 100% positive when they did that.  Both of the buyers couldn't accept the responsibility that they made the mistake, not me.  One even said that and still gave me a neutral as if I had some control over them making a mistake.  So I get the emotions that go along with stuff like this, but don't let that lead you to making a bad business decision.

Now the first thing you should do is always look at a buyer's Feedback Left For Others.  That can be very telling.  Because if your buyer has a history of doing this to other sellers, you could likely get the FB removed for abuse.  But don't try to do that from the website and let the bots decide.  You need to contact Ebay if you see the abuse.  Social media is the best place to do that because the better trained CSRs are there.

How long does this go on unless someone stands up to this. E-Bay will lose in the end when it's decided it is not worth the risk to sell on this site. Their profit is over my loss? I don't think so.

About like someone with an established, profitable brick-and-mortar shutting down the entire operation because of one shoplifter.

You know you are honest; but only YOU know that. This system doesn't know that.

On a Retail Selling site, the customer (buyer) is ALWAYS right.

Not any different in a Brick/Mortar store. We would have thieves find receipts in the parking lot, go into the store and get that item, and take it to the return desk. As a Mgr. we would have to 'smile' and just 'take it' because that's retail.

But you never did tell us what happened.

Did the buyer open an INAD case?  How did you respond to it? Did you accept the return and issue a return label and, if so, what was returned to you?

Or did you not respond, which made eBay intervene, which means the buyer had his money refunded and, because of your "no returns" policy, got to keep the coin as well?

With over thirty million sellers worldwide, and thousands more joining every week, Ebay will never run out of sellers. Why? Because they think they will never be scammed. And good luck finding a site that doesnt put buyers first, but I am sorry for your loss.

The buyer gave the OP a negative for getting the wrong coin. My guess is people who would scam for that same coin would not give out a negative. Maybe the buyer got the OP mixed up with another seller ? Maybe the OP accidently sent the wrong coin ? Who knows.
