Barely any views on my listings

I talked to someone at ebay a couple of days ago asking why my listings aren't being viewed. This has been going on for a couple of years now.  In the past these same items have had many views.  I have read comments about it having to do with promotions, and that unless you promote your item it really won't be seen.  The customer service rep said that it has to do with too much punctuation in my titles.  I figured that was bogus, so I took out the punctuation in several of my titles just to see what would happen.  Surprise (not)...I am still getting zero views on the items I changed!  Do most of you think it relates to promotions?

No I dont think it is about "promotions"

I also never worry about views. Views are not sales.

Titles can have a lot to do with being seen.

Titles with "!@! " dont get seen as much because no one search that way.

There is only so much space in titles, use the 1st 3 to 5 words to be the most important for your item. These will show up in searches,

@staciof4

I think people waste too much time worrying about views.  You can get 500 views on an item and no sales.  Sales are what counts and sales are what pays the bills, not views.  Try using your social media buttons at the top right hand side of the page where it reads "Share" What ever social media you use, attach your listing to it and perhaps you'll gets some views and maybe an actual sale or two.  Here's hoping!

Good luck to you and Happy Selling!

Things are a bit slow on eBay these days, for a lot of sellers and for a number of reasons but that is another topic. With regards to views it is probable that the use of PL increases the views but like klhmdg I care little about the views metric it does NOT equate to sales any more than impressions or watchers does.

While  customer support is generally useless they may have given you some good advice. Your listing title is key to buyer search results so make the most use of it. As a side note a LOT of your items are in a VERY saturated category, clothing, that has a lot of sellers and limited demand. I personally never buy clothes online since I can get them cheaper at a number of B&M stores and I can try them on for fit before I buy them. I never sell clothing on eBay and just donate anything I no longer want/need to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

I do pretty well selling clothing so it's not exactly a lost cause - plenty of people purchase clothing here because they can find styles, brands and sizes not readily available. I would suggest refining your lineup of item offerings before spending money on promotions, and also getting rid of the auction/BIN format - just sell the stuff the old fashioned way, fixed price - save the auctions for more rare items.

Your crafting items, books and manuals sales should start picking up soon.

Punctuation doesn't bother anything, though it's also not needed.

No need to ask CS why buyers do not want to view your items. The only possible answers they could give you is to check your own listings. Your asking prices are too high, your descriptions need to be more thorough, your pictures could use improvements, your items are not in much demand, your listing titles could be better,  etc. Ebay has no control on what your buyers want to search.

I share the belief that you are hurting your listing by using auctions.

The delta between your starting bid and buy it now price reduces the perception of the value of your items. Too many auctions in this day and age sell on one bid.

Auctions are by their nature more buyer time and effort than BIN. Your items are not worth the time to most buyers. Why look at anything which requires more effort unless you think you are going to get a bargain. $5 less on an inexpensive piece of clothing is not worth any extra effort. And you have valued your item at the starting bid.

I have some luck by editing listings now an then. Change a slow selling item (if you have multiple) sell two together instead of 1. Lower the price by .05 cents. Maybe change a category. I had a part to a toy set.Had no idea what it went to.Was a small radar dish I had listed for over a year here at $12.95 free shipping. Two nights ago I changed it to $8.95 plus $2.95 shipping and changed it from Vintage toy category to action figure category and it literally sold within 2-3 minutes..??!! That blew my mind only had 2 views showing before I revised it then 3 after when it sold minutes later. Was it luck or just got it in the right spot at the right time...cant rely on what used to be normal years ago here.Up till this past year I sold items regularly every week.I could count on them selling...now those same items takes weeks or months to sell one.I really think buyers are leaving, shopping elsewhere, or the economy has them buying less than in the past.(Probably all three) I do know competition here is getting tougher too.

Impressions and views.

Impressions-----------  it showed up in search, but no indication as to how many pages deep.

Views.............   more important.  If not viewed ............   low interest.

Promotion.................   will bring it higher in search...........   but at what cost?

Saturated category. How much would need to be given up getting it seen. Getting it seen does not equate to views/sales if the listing does not create enough interest for someone to click on it.

As another posted..................  auctions?  Who wants to view/bid on a pretty much common item just to have to wait ......................

Low views = Low interest in your item.

List a PlayStation5 for $100 and you'll get lots of views.

You are in such an oversaturated category with millions and millions of listings. Remember, there are almost two billion listings on Ebay. As was pointed out, some sellers do really well in this category with desired items. But run of the mill items are just a dime a dozen here, sorry.

Thank you all for your feedback.  I think what I'm not understanding or maybe didn't make clear, however, is that these same items used to get a bunch of views and then suddenly dropped to zero.  I do understand what several of you are saying...that there might not be any interest in these items, but why suddenly?

I expect because sales are so slow now with back to school you are just now experiencing the slow down.

I think it only relates to promotions if you are selling commodity items in crowded categories like clothing, books, crafts, home and garden.

I also think it relates to the demand for your items, competition, and whether they can be easily bought at the local discount store.

Lastly, I think it has to do with using the auction format for common items instead of the fixed price format. No one wants to wait a week to see if they win get that $7.99 children's soccer wall hanging.
