So, I've raised this question with a friend, and we have differing opinions, so I wanted to get some feedback from my fellow merchandisers:
Is it bad form to immediately relist an item you won in auction for a higher price, or is it all part and parcel for buyers and sellers? One of us says it's bad form, while the other says if someone hasn't done the research you have, and doesn't pay attention to the market, all bets are off, and if you double or even triple your money, good on ya.
Opinions?

This should not even be a question.
List the item!
Give your "bad form" friend a lesson in business.

Where does your friend think most sellers get their merchandise?
Sellers research the market, figure out what will sell, find a supply/supplier for it, then make money selling it at a profit. What's the problem or unusual/unethical about that?
Furthermore, does your friend really think most sellers have time to scour the countryside or the Internet to see if their item was resold? Or, why would they care? No one twisted their arm to sell it or to take what they asked or were willing to sell it for.
List the item and see what happens. Maybe you're hunch/research is spot on, maybe not. Live and learn, but sorry. No reason for you to go to Confession this week as there's no sin involved.

If you are using the same I.D. to sell the item as you are to buy the item, then yes it is very bad form. If it is separate I.D. with pictures completely different angles and backgrounds so buyers cannot tell it's the same item it is good form.

I'm in line with the above poster. Most sellers know it's a reality, but it can still sting to see it happen. And, believe it or not, I once saw a seller so upset they retaliated on another seller by wreaking havoc with their account. I say buy with one account and sell with another. It's more tactful. And if you don't have to ruffle any feathers, why would you? If you don't have a separate buying account, consider creating one.
That said, it seems you already made the purchase and are going to sell using the same account. I might wait a couple of months, then list it -- unless, of course, you need cash quick or it's a seasonal item you need to list now.

I don't think the Bad Form police are watching you. 🙂

and are going to sell using the same account...
How do you see this?
I for one have no idea what account the OP will use.
What did I miss in the OP?

It is an educated guess. Why else would the OP be asking unless they were talking about using the same account where the original seller could see they were trying to re-sell higher?

I think it is "bad form" to not wait until you have the item in your hand before relisting it.

Oh ok...my mistake...please accept my apologies.
I thought they were asking if it was "Bad form, or part of the game?"

I agree with that!

For the record, I'd never list an item sight-unseen, nor would I list an item I didn't have on-hand in my inventory.
I do like the idea of creating two separate accounts, though, thanks.
Usually what I do is watch the auctions ending first, and try'n get in on some good stuff others may have missed by adding them to my watch list and waiting to bid as close to close as possible (surely you folks are familiar with the strategy). When I win, I trade my items locally for higher-priced items which I then post to Ebay auctions.
Unfortunately, though that was the plan, circumstances have arisen that force me to immediately relist the things I was going to trade. Believe me, it sucks to do it this way, as I will actually lose money, but at this time, I have no other choice.
I really appreciate the opinions on both sides of the debate, thanks!

Bad form?
How so? The list of sellers on here, especially in clothing that do this:
1. Shirt is listed for 29 days BIN at $9.99.
In the last 24 hours seller revises price to $19.99 so that this is now the closing price. The list of sellers that do this practice is in the thousands.
