Back in eBay town :)

I'm back... I ran my eBay business for 15 years as a hobby and had fun selling, sourcing. During a nasty divorce I had 2 choices close my business or share my gross income 50/50, not net, gross lol.

I decided to come back (crazy no?) I glanced at the forums and things didn't change much. Same old, same old, bad buyers, too many high fees, eBay unfairness... we can't stop complaining lol

In the days, I used SixBit, love it even though I had to run a server. Today with the all-cloud of things I tried several tools and pick the one that makes my life almost easy (remember, it's a hobby).

So, hello everyone 🙂 and if there are new eBay tools that showed uo in the last 3 years, let me know 🙂

Re: Back in eBay town :)

I would suggest making sure to read the complete fall seller update and specifically understanding this part:

Service Metrics

  • Starting September 10, 2018:
    • You will be required to upload tracking in the structured data field before the estimated delivery date has passed.
    • The new eBay shipping labels experience will be available to all sellers.
  • Starting in October 2018:
    • If you have very high rates of “item not as described” returns you may be subject to an additional 4 percent final value fee in affected categories.
  • Starting in November 2018:
    • Starting in November 2018, if you have very high rates of “item not received” requests, you may be subject to extended delivery estimates in affected categories.

Re: Back in eBay town :)

That souldn't be a problem as I ship as soon as they pay unless it's a Sunday.

I noticed that when I put the tracking in eBay, I have to enter it in PP as well. No automatic PP update as before?

Don't know about paypal tracking. Though I would like to hear about the advantages of making sure tracking is updated in PP and where you would do that.

I ship out of the eBay shipping tool

I ship out of the eBay shipping tool with USPS and UPS.

Re: Back in eBay town :)

I always make sure it's in PP in case the buyer compalins to PP and not eBay.

I go to PP transaction and click print label wher eI can add the tracking. Before it was updated by eBay but the 4 sales didn't update, I had to do it manually.

In the 2018 Summer Seller Update, we announced new changes to requirements for creating a markdown sale event that went into effect on June 25, 2018. We listened to your feedback and have made a change to these markdown sale requirements. Sellers can now add items to a markdown sale event even if the listing was previously in another sale event within the past 14 days as long as the listing price has not been changed.

I checked in paypal and one of the two I shipped today have the tracking automatically entered as do the shipments from previous days.  The latter one I shipped today has not been updated yet. I printed the label about 3 hours ago.

Re: Back in eBay town :)

Mine generraly update automatically.

Last one that I saw that "needed attention" was one that I used "combine" to send items paid for individually. I used the eBay process to combine.  It had the tracking loaded in each on eBay, but only to one on PayPal. Label was printed in eBay.

Glad you mentioned having it in PayPal, as I woke up Saturday to a PP unauthorized purchase case.  PP says that they see the tracking, and say "We will review this as soon as possible."  Need to go have another look at that.

The sale was over a month old. I'm thinking the CC bill came in, and someone forgot making the purchase. It was not a scammer size sale.

Re: Back in eBay town :)

It could be they didn't recognize the purchase, or it could be they had a lost or stolen card, and the bank goes back for a certain period of time and questions charges.

@mysmallstoremn

I bulk scanned your listings and there are three that contain active content violations that you can check or correct with the sandbox tool:

http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/ActiveContentSandbox.htm

372453281649
372450732962
372450733446

All of your templates have a basic credit link violation.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/links-policy?id=4248

It looks like you have removed the credit links, but the third-party credit logo far exceeds eBay's limit of 88x33

<!--
The following logo and attribution needs to remain with the appropriate link back to codisto as per our terms of service
-->
	<div class="pull-right logo">
		<span class="muted"> eBay integration</span> by
		<img class="baseline" src="https://d31wxntiwn0x96.cloudfront.net/ahtkbf/images/codisto-connect.png?width=200&amp;nostretch&amp;v=1">
	</div>

I think you can fix this in bulk by changing the width=200 to width=88 within the URL itself.

Welcome back.

Some things are the same, some things have changed.

Returns were always unfair for sellers, but you will soon find out that they have become even more stressful.

Metrics are a bit more important nowdays.

You will likely be forced in to Free Returns. Without free returns, you are not really protected from damaged items on returns, but with free returns you can get up to a 50% refund for damaged items (not 100% anymore).

Also, if you have a "very high" defect rate (in seller metrics section of Performance tab, on sellers hub) you will have 4% additional FVF's. This is another reason you will prob need free returns. If you don't do free returns, more people do SNAD, and those defects count towards additional FVF.

You need to keep SNAD at a minimum. Try to do everything you can in your listings & packing processes to keep SNAD at a minimum.

Speaking of SNAD, you can NOT defend yourself if buyers choose the wrong return reason, either. If they choose SNAD, but in the same message say "Sorry I purchased wrong item"... too bad. You are stuck with a SNAD. No wya to appeal it. Be prepared to accept that.

I've never used SixBit, we use our own in-house software, so I can't speak on that one.

Use the "Product Identifiers" section for the most important search phrases. Description mean -very- little nowdays. Identifiers are the better place to put important info.

If you can, add your item to the "new eBay catalog". It has a substantial affect on your visibility. Although the catalog team is outsourced so this is a major headache if any issues. Speak to eBay CS if you need help.

Make sure you upload tracking to eBay ASAP, before the item goes out if possible. This will protect you from new changes that could punish you if you did not add until after.

Do NOT share contact information off of eBay. They are stricter on this nowdays. Even if you share phone information with a customer to assist them in customer service PRIOR to an order, you may get a message about eBay "detecting an off-eBay transaction" and they can even take money out of your account for the sale, even if there was no evidence of an actual sale.

That's all I can think of off-hand, but if you have any questions let me know... Good luck!

Re: Back in eBay town :)

WOW SNAD was already trouble, returns as well - I had a woman who return a box of rocks 10lbs, I had to pay USPS and additional fee to have it delivred - couldn't fight it as she made a "return".

I noticed the product identifier and I'm working on it - not easy when you work with indi designers lol but we will get there.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
