Authenticity Guarantee

Frankly, I've had enough of the alleged "Authenticity Guarantee". I understand it with high value ($300 and up), ungraded sports cards, simply not necessary with graded cards. It adds cost and lead time to transactions, frustrating buyers. Recently, I had a $200 graded PSA card returned to me because of scratches on the case. Seriously? What does that have to do with the graded of the card or it's authenticity? This is utter buffoonery. Bring back baseball card shows. Why can't I opt out of this since my feedback is 100%?

I don't have experience with selling cards through AG, but it's my understanding they verify authenticity and item condition.

The eBay page on trading cards AG program specifically says:

every raw card and sealed plastic holder is inspected to ensure you’re getting exactly what you ordered.

So it appears the case condition matters and flaws like scratches need to be disclosed in the listing otherwise it will be rejected? Hopefully by bumping this thread for you some experienced trading card sellers will see this and provide more info.

Whether you agree or disagree with scrutinizing the case, it's laid out in the terms so any of your listings going through AG I'd suggest updating to disclose case flaws. There's a lot of info in the FAQ on the page linked above - you should check it out.

Feedback has nothing to do with this. Feedback isn't even counted towards seller status. Why can't you opt out? Because eBay doesn't offer that option. Their site, their rules, like 'em or not.

Authenticity guarantee across trading cards, handbags and sneakers seems to be a love it or hate it situation among sellers. Most of the AG complaints I've seen for trading cards has been from buyers, not sellers.

I haven't heard much on watches or jewelry yet so perhaps those categories being quieter than the rest means they have fewer issues. 🤷

Authenticity Guarantee

I recently sold a pair of sneakers for 158.00. They were hijacked to the Authentic guarantee. Ebay decided that my description was not to their liking. I posted with a dozen photos that all could be enlarged and sold them as seen and pre-owned. The shoes never even made it to the buyer, they were issued a refund and the shoes were returned to me. No mention of Authentication. Not right.
