Hello fellow members, I bought a storage unit and their was a beautiful purse very high end. It was authenticated by that seller's team. Paperwork and proof of authenticy is in the purse. Is it ok to sell the purse with their proof?

Thank you

What brand of bag is it and did they authenticate it themselves?  You have to be positive that it is authentic in order to sell it so unless it was done by an authenticator who regularly deals in that brand, you don’t know for sure.

Depending on the brand, there may be someone who can help you and/or point you in the right direction on the Fashion board.

The best way to authenticate designer merchandise is to know the brand intimately yourself and not depend on others to tell you if it is real or not.

I take every 'authentication' that is made by others - that is there in order to sell the item at a high price to those who do not know better as a huge red flag of a scam.

The best way to tell if an item is real in an auction/estate situatio is to look at the reaction of dealers who know the merchandise.  If they are only kind of interested, then it isn't real no matter what the paperwork says.

i buy storage units too. Anything like designer clothing and purses i work with a lady that owns a resale shop. you get alot of clothing in these auctions  and i am no clothing expert so i give it to her and she decides what she sells in her store, what she lists online including here and the rest she gives back to me to wear, use as rags or burn.

Clothing can be time consuming especially for some one like me that knows nothing or just what i learn from her and being a saturated category i thought it would be better to protect my selling accounts(remember i am greeen on clothing) and take half the profits instead of trying to keep all the profits and let her risk her account but with her knowledge that is low risk on her part.

I figure even taking half the profits was better also because i know me and i would just have piles of clothes all over deciding what is good or not orwhat is authentic or  a knock off and none of it would get listed ever, so i'm money ahead leaving the clothing in someones elses hand.

i do occasionally sell some clothing, shoes and purses when she gives them  back  but they are no name stuff that looks decent, doesn't resemble any high end line and thought they are to good to just throw away  but any name brand stuff she hands back and tells me they are fake, they go bye-bye in the burning pit.

" It was authenticated by that seller's team. Paperwork and proof of authenticity is in the purse. Is it OK to sell the purse with their proof?"

Don't you find it just a wee bit odd that "sellers" (of dusty storage units) have an "authentication  team" who just happen to know all about high end purses?

Add to that oddity the chances of someone having a high value purse leaving it in a storage unit rather than at home and now add to that, there is paperwork and proof of authenticity in the purse.

This fits neither Occam's razor nor Kant's Categorical Imperative and seems to defy common sense and basic logic.

Need clarification what is meant by "that seller's team" first

I thought storage units were sold pretty much unpicked through (maybe I've watched too many episodes of that Storage Wars show)

If the seller's 'team' has picked through the items and supposedly authenticated this particular one - you'd think they'd have culled it out and sold it themselves or purchased the unit for themselves.

Sounds kind of strange to me.  Is that customary?  I thought locked storage units stayed unlocked until they're sold and paid for.

By the way - looking through your listings.

All those plural words (rhinestones/questions/concerns/days/returns/photos etc) shouldn't have those apostrophesthat you've added to them.  It's a good idea to remove them as they give the wrong impression.  When you're selling expensive things it's important to watch your spelling.

a seller's authentication is worthless...anybody can print out a piece of paper saying anything...

it's similar to an appraisal given by someone who immediately offers to buy the item...

In this state (washington) they can be prosecuted if they're found to have been gone through by the storage place prior to auction. Also pretty stupid of them considering the legit owner can redeem the debt at any time right up to it even being on the auction block.

Hi,

I would strongly suggest posting pictures of the purse on the Fashion board. The group there is very knowledgable about a variety of purses. If they have questions or concerns, they might suggest an offsite authenticating establishment.

You don't want to list a knock-off or fake purse. There are enough perils selling on Ebay without taking that sort of chance.
