Auctions with Best Offer

If auctions have the best offer option I'm sure that most buyers will offer a lower price but what happens if they offer a higher price in hopes that the seller will accept it, is that possible?

What do you mean, "is that possible?" Of course it's possible, and most likely what usually happens.

As a buyer, if a seller has the "best offer" option on an auction, I would never make an offer lower than the starting price. That's kind of ridiculous. Even one bidder would meet that starting price. I always offer what I think is a reasonable price, but it's always higher than the starting price.

Keep in mind that with Best Offer on an Auction, the first bid ends the Best Offer option.

In my opinion, the most useful option on Auctions is Buy It Now, which gives a higher price at which the auctioneer will happily sell. This also is a rough guide for bidders, encouraging higher bids.  The first bid also ends this option.

Both, again in my opinion, tend to lower the final price on the auction. (If the seller accepts a higher  Best Offer   or BIN, there is no Auction.)

Best of course, is a Fixed Price listing with Immediate Payment Required, which leaves the listing open for 30 days or until someone pays for it. This also reduces the chance of an Unpaid Item Dispute, which is much more common on Auctions than on Fixed Price listings.

An auction with best offer is different then a fixed price item with the best offer option.

On fixed price listings, buyers offer less then the listed price.

With an auction, they'll offer more then the auction starting price hoping they can buy it before the price goes up.

Have a great day.

You would need to make a fair offer to see if the seller will accept it.  Clearly it needs to be more than the starting price.  The starting price is generally the least amount they are willing to accept on an auction, but have listed it as an auction in the hope it will go higher.

I'm kinda thinking the link below, kind of, somewhat, a little bit, maybe expresses what you're saying?
