Auctions soon to be automatically relisted too?

This morning after 10 weeks of no extra free listing offers (besides the 50 each month) finally got a 100 free auction listings offer. Thrilled! Then read their paragraphs of fine print. This is frightening: "qualifying listings that do not sell during their first listing duration may automatically renew/relist outside the Promotion Period, and will be subject to standard insertion fees."     Not so thrilled anymore. What does "may" mean? Like they might relist & charge me, or they might choose not to relist?  Do we take a chance on this? If true then the baloney in their announcement about how the fixed price items will eternally relist & we will pay 35 cents each unless we cancel ahead of time includes ONLY those BINs & Fixed Price was a lie. Holy cow, really need this clarified before listing any more "free" items.

Auctions soon to be automatically relisted too?

I was hoping to have it clarified as to whether the auctions will be automatically renewed if they don't sell.

Did you get an answer yet?  Looks like a bunch of evasive spin.

Thank You Trinton, I finally got my answer!!! As I understand you, since my listings do NOT say they will automatically relist by you guys & I have NOT checked the "please auto-relist this" box there will be no relist by either of us. And no surprise fees for me. Thank You again!

Hi @moldy5, correct! Unless you choose to renew/relist, or eBay has applied this automatically at the time of listing (which would be clearly stated in the listing form and have no insertion fees applied), your auctions will not renew/relist after the initial duration. No surprise fees or anything like that slight smile

Except all that means is “right now, this particular minute and it can change at any time”.  Learned that one on the GTC fiasco thread.

Auctions soon to be automatically relisted too?

Regarding free auction promotion 5922, I also was concerned and called ebay - had to wait some time to speak to a "manager"  who reassured me that if on the long listing form I do NOT check the auto-relist box, this auction listing will NOT automatically renew.  As a protection, I have a reference number in case there is a relisting charge, I will not incur a fee; however, this reference  number is just for my account but the gist should apply to all - I hope.

Auctions soon to be automatically relisted too?

Hi I'm new to the board.  Been selling here off and on for a number of years.  Just wanted to add that I had 6 auctions end and relist automatically.  I've used my 50 free listings, so I guess I'll be charged for the relists.  This was the last go round for them as I am donating these items.  This just really stinks.  I just went in and ended all of them.   I am currently unemployed and every penny counts right now.  I haven't had any sales since Monday and the extra charge is not what I anticipated.  I am just a small time seller just trying to get by.  Really considering ending all my listings and going elsewhere.

Well, it seems that time has already told.  They have said that auction listings will not automatically relist.  I am so sorry that happened to you, especially under your circumstances.  I hope your circumstances change soon and wish you all the best.

@trinton@ebay

Could you help @xoxoterri as her auction listings relisted and fees not anticipated were incurred?  And are auction listings now relisting automatically?  Thank you!

There may be a misunderstanding here.  GTC listings are not auctions.  Auctions are a different type of listing.  It is a listing that you accept bids on for a period of time.  From looking at the listings you currently have posted, you are not running any auctions.

I think you are just confusing the different types of listings and calling them all auctions.  Am I correct?  If so, don't worry about it, it happens all the time on the threads.

The FP [fixed price] listings that you just had relist would not have relisted because of this change Ebay just started on the 18th of this month.  It wasn't retroactive and it only affects listings that were posted on or after the 18th.

What likely happened is that when you set up those listings, you had the box checked to auto relist them a certain amount of times OR you set them up as a GTC [good till cancelled] listing.  You can go into your listing as if you were trying to revise it and look to see what type of listing it is.

If you don't what these listings to renew, you can end them any time you feel is appropriate.

No there is no misunderstanding between fixed price and auctions. I ended the 6 auctions that came up on my phone as relisted. These items were pulled and bagged for donation. I did not want to run them again. I did not have the box checked to automatically relist up to 8 times either. Never do or did I check that box. Well they relisted automatically to my surprise and I then ended then just as fast. Thanks for your explanation but that is not the case here.

I have checked my account fees page and currently there are no charges for the relists. That makes me feel a little better.

Good.  Some do confuse the two.  Did you post using the QLT?

Automatic relisting Auction style listings:

  • If you're using the quick listing tool:
    • Automatic relisting is selected by default
    • Auctions with a duration of 5 days or more will be automatically relisted up to 8 times
    • Auctions with a duration of 1 or 3 days may be relisted up to 8 times as a 7-day listing
  • If you're using the advanced listing form to create an auction with a duration of 5 days or more:
    • You can choose to automatically relist the item by checking the Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell box. When you use the advanced listing form

Automatic relisting is available in most categories, but there are some exclusions (see below). If your item doesn't sell after 8 relists, it will appear in your unsold items - opens in new window or tab.

We charge an insertion fee (or count it as a zero insertion fee listing) for the original auction-style listing. If you're a non-business seller, the automatic relists are free. If you're selling on eBay as a business, we charge an insertion fee (or count it as a zero insertion fee listing ) each time the item is relisted.

Categories excluded from automatic relisting
