When is eBay going to wake up and stop their free listings? Half of the items listed are at stupid prices. They will never sell. There needs to be skin in the game. If you pay $1 to list you will use your brain and list at proper price. The free listing system is causing problems for someone looking to buy.

There was another thread about this same thing about a week ago. What's a proper price? If I was buying something the proper price would be dirt cheap. If I was selling something the proper price would be the highest price I could get.

Wait, what?  Did you just say eBay should get rid of one of the last things that's free for sellers?

Honestly i can see Ebay increasing the amount of FREE listings to sellers for more engagement.

This is a very bad idea.
If I had to pay eBay $1.00 to list each item, I would want to add at least $1.25 to the price of each of my items.
Raising my prices would probably not result in more sales.

There are many reasons why some sellers list prices that might seem "stupid" to you, whether they're stupid-high or stupid-low.
If you don't want to engage with the "stupid", walk away.

Have you seen how many sellers keep paying to use a reserve and it doesn't sell and the keep using the reserve and paying that fee?

Have a great day.

Then the sellers would add that dollar onto the 'stupid' listing and it would only cost a dollar more. What is the point of creating higher prices on the listings you are referring to you?

If there was a dollar per listing, it may result in fewer listings for everyone due to the fact not all sellers want to raise their prices and there would be less offerings for the public.

Half of the items listed are at stupid prices.

Can you give an example of a meaningful search where half of the items have "stupid prices" and they are causing problems for a prospective buyer?

If you pay $1 to list you will use your brain and list at proper price

I have about 1200 listings, and they are very slow-moving inventory. They are not at "stupid prices", they are just fairly obscure music memorabilia, records and CDs under $10. Paying $1 a month for $10 items that take a year or two to sell would cause problems for prospective buyers because it would drastically reduce the variety of items available here.

The free listing system is causing problems for someone looking to buy.

Not if they clicks the sort button on every search that says "Lowest Price Frst".

And who is to decide what a "proper price" is? You? Well you are in luck! You already get to decide that by using the back button.

How exactly is it "causing problems for someone looking to buy"? It has never caused me problems when looking to buy, not once. You can sort the search in by lowest first, highest first, newest first, ending soonest, and even the worthless default of 'best match'.

If that happened many sellers would expect a listing page solely for themselves.

Instead of the current page full of adverts with the sellers ad stuck somewhere there as an afterthought.

Sarcasm Mode "ON"

No they wouldn't...They would come here and complain about the additional $1.00 listing fee they didn't see.....

If eBay charged $1 to search would buyers use their brains to set a price range on their searches?
