Auction higher than buy it now

One of my auctions has a bid higher than the buy it now price. My question is... Can someone still click on the buy it now button and purchase this item for less than what the bid already is? I attempted to turn off buy it now but was not allowed to. Any feedback on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time.

Auction higher than buy it now

Buy it Now disappears when reserve is met (if you have one) or auction exceeds the BIN.

You have NO active Auctions or Sold Items that have an 'auction' bid higher than a BIN.

If an auction price is higher than a BIN - the BIN shouldn't even be there?

The Buy it now option is removed when the 1st bid on the auction is submitted or when the bidding reached the reserve price if you placed a reserve price.

In almost every category, the BIN option disappears once there is at least one bid.

In the categories where that doesn't happen, the BIN disappears once the bids reach half the BIN level.

This accepted solution is not correct.  The BIN option disappears when the FIRST bid is placed, or when the Reserve is met.

It would be completely illogical to wait until the BIN was surpassed -- who on earth would bid higher than the BIN price?

The 4 categories in which the BIN option remains available until the bidding reaches 50% of the BIN price are:

1. Parts & Accessories (eBay Motors)
2. Tickets
3. Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
4. Cell Phones & PDAs

Happens all the time. I start most of my auctions with a BIN price and low stating bids. About 10% of the time I sell very quickly at the BIN price. However, I also usually get bids within the first several hours and the BIN is then gone. Often, the final bids, likely buyers who never saw the BIN price, bid higher than the BIN price.

Of course I meant, Who would bid higher than a BIN price that was still available.

After the BIN option disappears, later bidders might never know it had even been there at all, much less know the exact price.

Thanks for the detail - I notice the Ebay help page on Buy It Now contains only a reference to "some categories", without specifics - very lame.

But there appear to be additional hidden rules.  I just bid on an item with BiN of $400, and starting bid $250.  If the rules discussed were to apply, the BiN option would be gone - but it isn't.

The BIN option remains available if there is an unmet reserve; perhaps that is the case in your auction with a bid of $250 and a BIN of $400.   Otherwise, I think it must be a glitch. Regardless of the category, the BIN should disappear because $250 is more than 50% of $400.
