April Fools eBay I will not be listing this month due to GTC

We have made a tradition of converting all of our items to 99 cent auctions on April FooLs Day. It was a fun week to clear out inventory. I never expected it to be a money maker but surprisingly it was.

This year I will not be listing at all the first two weeks of April.

I would like other sellers  to consider, that we can send a message to eBay with our lack of inventory and reduced sales.

I will not return to list GTC, I am expanding my horizons over the next two weeks.

So it was profitable and you’re not going to do it in protest? 👌🏻

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

So you won't run auctions (real bidding auctions) because of GTC?  seems like you should be boycotting GTC instead?

I do not get your protest?  You are boycotting auctions because you do not like GTC?  Or are you boycotting eBay all together?

I do applaud the creativity of your pretest.  carry on

Good Luck Selling!

I truly hope you get tons of people to join your protest.

In doing so you will just make piece of the pie that much bigger. Thank you.

I truly do not understand the angst over GTC. I’ve been here since ’04 and I have always used GTC.

The more sellers who leave or boycott, the more visibility the rest of us enjoy.

It doesn’t hurt EBay one bit, and traditionally the sellers return anyway after these post-announcement diasporas.

Since its always been a fun week for you, why not reconsider and enjoy yourself in the face of EBay annoyances?

100% false, sellers have gradually left Ebay in high numbers over the last decade. The "increased visibility" you talk about has led to 100 "Sales are dead" posts.

At one time, towards the beginning of Ebays descent into irrelevancy, it didn't matter if sellers left. As the sellers left however over the years,  with every stupid inept money grab by Ebay, the cumulative effect of sellers leaving has rendered this site a mere shell of what it used to be. They took buyers with them and have left this site barren of any uniqueness this place once had. The death by 1000 cut effect is a perfect analogy for Ebay. The sellers now have the power in this battle because Ebay doesn't have much left in the tank, they are fledgling and weak and now are resorting to scummy tactics to bleed whats left of the unwitting fools into becoming the lifeline to their quarterly financial reports. GTC is meant to increase revenue WITHOUT items selling because Ebay can't figure out how to increase sales on a site they destroyed.

There would be no angst if the GTC format was still VOLUNTARY as it has been for years.

If the other time options would still be available.   Now it is GTC or Auctions.

For many sellers GTC just doesn't fit into their business plans or lifestyles.

They have determined over the years what works best for their business and now E-bay is causing them to have to re-think how they do business on here or whether they should continue to do business on here.

COYOTES RULE!!!

Gee, I’m surprised you can even overcome your disgust enough to post on the board...

Re: April Fools eBay I will not be listing this month due to GTC

While I do not plan on participating in an April Fool's Day boycott, I do plan to really cut back during April when my last batch of promo 30-day listings expire in a couple of weeks and my only choice is GTC (auctions won't work well for my long-tail books).

April is always a month of refection for me.  Tax preparation shows everyone making money but me (ok, yeah, I did turn an itty-bitty profit).  Just not worth the effort.  I expect that at least a few others will make hard choices in April and eBay's listing numbers--especially of the unusual, collectible, hard-to-find items--will slip.  Maybe the Great April Listing Boycott. . .

My relationship with eBay extends nearly 20 years long.  Time to split the blanket while I still have a blanket to wrap around me.

I am not listing for the first two weeks and then I will re-evaluate. I will not use GTC.

Re: April Fools eBay I will not be listing this month due to GTC

I might end up being the first accidental unwilling participant in this boycott. I want to keep on trucking but my store level dictates 1,000 items which is where I WAS at.  I currently have over 300 items sitting in my unsold. My problem is if the item had -0- views in 30 days why would I want to re-list it?  I actually have several that are at -0-. I can not remember having items at got absolutely -0- views in years. It never happens for me. So what to do what to do. Ebay are you listening? Please give us a 5,000 item tier so I can keep on trucking.

What Ebay fails to ever realize is that most of the Sellers that are leaving are not only taking their inventory and many times their buyers with them, the Majority of Sellers also buy on Ebay so they lost that aspect of additional sales.  The CEO continues to push China as being Ebays future but rarely do their Sellers buy from a US seller, rather they buy on Alibaba who beat Ebay out for Chinas business.  So when they keep replacing Sellers that leave with more Chinese Sellers they still have lost the money they used to spend.

I may sell on Ebay but I rarely if ever buy anything on here except the free shipping supplies that come with the store.  This is a big reason that Ebay showed a whopping 1% increase in the 4th quarter while most other sites managed to have double digit growth.

Again this is just another push by Ebay to get more money from the Sellers without anything having to be sold as they no longer have anybody left that knows how to grow the company.  Those that had the potential skills either left on their own because they see the writing on the wall or were let go in the 2 layoffs that Ebay has had. This was the site that Meg raved ran itself and a Monkey could to the CEO job and the company would do just fine.  I won't say I liked all of her ideas either, but at least Sellers were able to sell their goods on the site and not have their items constantly hidden because Ebay needs to share the wealth so they can sell more stores that generate non selling revenue.
