Anyone worried the 50K free listings will hurt their sales and cause issues on ebay?

I find some big issues with the free 50K listings to everyone.

1. For those of us that pay $300 for anchor store probably have as many free listings as we want, and with this new promo a starter store for $8 can list as many items as they choose with no item listing fee.  That doesn't really seem fair to me, and allows lots of competition in the categories I sell without the sellers incurring any risk in listing. I am literally paying $300 the next 2 months for no reason considering I could get the same out of a basic level store for $8.

2. The servers have had trouble loading certain pages for months as well as lots of other technical glitches. Can the servers handle a huge increase in total number of listings especially in light of a lot of the employees are home because of COVID 19. IF a serious problem arises will there even be employees to fix the server?

3. If ebay wants to help us during this crisis why not give a discount or a free month of whatever level store you currently have? I mean they are cutting support down pretty heavy so they can actually justify less of a price since we are getting less service for the same price since phone call support is down.

4.This seems like another ploy by ebay to increase profits as much as they can without ever having to make a sale. I assume they are hoping after the 2 months free people will either forget to end their listings or decide to keep them active and start to pay the listing fee, which if they don't have a large store even 1000 items would add up super fast in fees.

What is everyones thoughts on this, is it really helping anyone? Why is the number so huge 50000? What percent of sellers on ebay list more than say 2000? Has to be only the top 1% of mega sellers list anything in that volume.  The other thing I can think of is drop shippers it benefits. Goodluck all, and stay safe!

O did consider it briefly, but given the way shipping supplies have skyrocketed the last couple of months, I'm not willing to give up the (supposedly free) ebay shipping supplies at the coupon level I have.

Even though they've also gone up in price the boxes I source that the ebay branded ones don't have in those sizes have doubled in price.

Yeah I edited it after I looked at it. But how many would do that anyway?

Only reason I knew is cause I was thinking HARD about going all the way down to starter based mostly on the early term fee for the starter yearly.

If the 200 + 200 I got were Auction ONLY I would have.  My problem is that those are greedy promo's and suck everything in coming and going so I blew through those with GTC renewals and then I'll get stuck with 200 auctions coming out of a store allotment so I went with the basic instead.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, I'll take free any day, just mumbling under my breath lol

And keeping with the they whole I'm not complaining (grin) thing ... kinda hard to break 1000 FP listings if I keep selling things and dropping back down to 750.... get 5 things listed and sell 7 ... dag nab it 😉

I hate photobucket right now... PS Answers given years ago may or may not be current now, please check with current posters to the boards to see if the information is still relevant.

The break even point for the .85% discount that a Basic Store subscription receives vs NO DISCOUNT (10%) that the Starter Store subscription does not receive depends on whether or not the Basic Store subscriber is committing to a yearly subscription or whether they are utilizing the month to month subscription.

Break even point for the .85% discount that a Basic Store subscription receives is:

Month To Month at $27.95 /month is $3,290 in sales /month**

Yearly Contract (12 months) at $21.95 /month is $2,500 in sales /month**

**These numbers assume that none of any given sellers sales are utilizing the FVF cap of $350. And it assumes that the sellers items fall into the vast majority of categories that are charging a basic FVF of 10%.

But I think that most of the sellers within this thread are referring to the month to month subscription since they may be planning on changing their store subscriptions before July 31.

Of course none of this matters to Media Sellers who pay 12% no matter what with NO Store Subscription Discount Regardless Of Size. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............

FVFs don't change based on store level btw

Well, unless you plan on dropping from a monthly anchor to a monthly starter.

Since when?  True it is the starter store that has no change to the FVF over others without a store at all, but it also isn't only the Anchor store that gets a break in the FVFs.

Appreciate your commentary. But I feel sorry for the sellers that don’t realize they will be charged after the promo.

I don't understand.  Why wouldn't sellers know that once the promo is over and if they leave those listings up and running that they would be charged listing fees when they renew?  If a seller doesn't know that, they simply aren't paying attention.  It is a promo afte rall.  Anyone that doesn't know that beyond the promo period the rates go back to normal, well there just isn't an excuse for that.  Not a good one anyway.

There have been quite a few on various threads saying they were considering it.

Ebay shipping supplies have never been free.  We have been given coupons towards whatever we decide to purchase.

Ebay has consistently raised pricing since they started this program.  Yet our coupons are the same amount as they were when this program started.  Every occasion I get to bring this to someone at Ebay's attention I do.  The coupon values are long overdue for an increase.

But for me, I still like my coupon.  I get what I can with it and it ultimately saves me money on shipping supplies overall.  I'm grateful for that.  That is the way I've always looked at it.  But still it is far overdue for Ebay to raise these coupon values.

Yes but keep in mind that if we didn't have these 50,000 free listings that even having 750 listings on a regular basis the Premium store sill is the least expensive way to go.

There are many sellers that only dream of listing 5 and 7 sell.  I hope your sales continue to climb.

I went from Basic to Starter store - I don't sell necessities and the media FVF means I've moved most of my media to another site, anyway, so my sales are pretty slow, and summer I tend to take time off.  My yearly sub was up in May so I shifted in April. I'll consider going back up at the end of the summer.

Re: Anyone worried the 50K free listings will hurt their sales and cause issues on ebay?

@firesteel_surplus

I'm old and something of a technodolt.

So when I accepted the 50K listings, I wrote the date it would end in my daybook.

On paper.

And on the calendar above my desk.

On paper.

So on the 29th (ahead of the end) I can go to my Stores and end all my listings, 25 at a time, until I am done.

I don't think any of my Stores is over 1000 different items, but I normally have only about 500 in my Basic *Stores.

I normally monitor my listings daily and close those which are not performing.

They go to my Unsold Items List and are ready to relist at any point in the next 90 days.

Which is where my "50K Promotion" items came from-- my Unsold lists.

* Any seller can double the number of her listings without any further cost, by putting half her listings on a different site. I am based on eBay Canada, but half my listings are on eBaydotCOM.

There are quirks to deal with but nothing really difficult.

But that will only work until said seller is forced into Managed Payments.

At which time ebay will end any of the listings on sites other than dot com.

Re: Anyone worried the 50K free listings will hurt their sales and cause issues on ebay?

I have been selling on Ebay for 15 years and everything you said is EXACTLY what I have been thinking.

I am going to cancel my store Wednesday, eat the $59.00 penalty and move down to the $8.00 monthly store for the next 3 months, then, figure out where I go next.

Ebay is giving NO seller support, so why pay them for the store?

I can't wait for the day when there is a viable competitor to Ebay.

Amazon and Bonanza just aren't there yet.

May be then, Ebay will care about the sellers.

In my opinion, Ebay, could care less about sellers, even though without sellers, Ebay has no business.

That statement I highlighted is incorrect.  The ONLY thing that has changed is the main call center is not open.  That was NEVER the only way to get help regarding Ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/help/home

Drop to the bottom of the page and the email option is there.  Or you can click on the reason for needing assistance and the options for contact will display.  On occasion that could be the ability to call, email or live chat.

https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp

The seller’s help center give you the ability for file for certain types of assistance.

It's important to be aware of where you post a question on Ebay’s Facebook page.  A comment on one of Ebay’s marketing posts won't be answered, but comments posted directly on Ebay’s page will.

Don't jump to conclusions.  Do your research.
